Chapter 12: Volume and Surface Area: Pyramid & Its Types

The document discusses pyramids and their types. It defines a pyramid as a polyhedron where the base is a polygon and all other faces are triangles. Pyramids are described by the shape of their base, such as a triangular pyramid having a triangular base or a hexagonal pyramid having a hexagonal base. It provides examples of different types of pyramids and formulas for calculating the volume of various pyramids using measurements of their base and height. Exercises are included for using the formulas to calculate volumes of triangular and rectangular pyramids.

PYRAMID & ITS TYPES

PYRAMID:
A pyramid is a polyhedron for which the
base is a polygon and all lateral faces are
triangles.
A pyramid is typically described by the
shape of its base. For instance, a triangular
pyramid has a base that is a triangle, and a
hexagonal pyramid has a base that is a
hexagon.

EXERCISE : 12A

 1. OABC is a triangular pyramid with a base area of 15 4cm . Find the volume of the triangular pyramid.
3. OXYZ is a pyramid whose base is a right – angled triangle where XY = 7m and YZ = 4m . Given that the height of
the pyramid is 5m , find its volume.

V= 1/3 x ½ x b x h x H
 4. VPQRS is a rectangular pyramid where PQ = 10 cm and QR = 6 cm . Given that the volume of the pyramid is 100
PRACTISE NOW 3 from page no : 324
