The project aims to lift water from ground level to the first floor of buildings without electricity by utilizing human power. A centrifugal pump is connected to pedals via a chain drive system to transfer the mechanical energy of pedaling into hydraulic energy to pump water. The system provides an eco-friendly water supply solution for remote areas without power infrastructure. The design is compact, portable, low cost and maintenance-free while allowing for water lifting of 20-30 feet.

INTRODUCTION
 Pump is a device which raises or transfers liquids at the expense of power input.

 A device that transfers the mechanical energy into potential and kinematic energy of
a liquid.

 Pedal Powered Water Pump (PPWP) is an eco friendly water pump system.

 The PPWP works on mechanical energy without electricity.

 PPWP provides drinking water and Irrigation in remote areas where electricity
is not available.
LITERATURE SURVEY

 Vishal Garg, Neelesh Khandare,Gautam Yadav

This paper deals with the design and construction of pedal operated bicycle which can
be used in small irrigation such as water irrigation. The author elaborates the theoretical
aspects of the pedal operated water pump.
 Sagar Vanjari, Jayesh Mahajan, Amradeep Landge , Rahul Bajaj
They worked on the design and fabrication of Pedal operated water pump which can lift
the water 20-30ft. The power developed by their device was 1.818kW.
PROBLEM DEFINITION

To overcome the problems, chain drive is used instead of belt drive
which is utilizing maximum effort, previously which was going
waste in overcoming friction. Also the whirling problem is
resolved.

It can be used even without power supply.

OBJECTIVES
 To lift the water from the ground floor to first floor of the domestic building.

 To save the electricity.

 Use of man power operation is required.

 Pedaling is the most efficient way of utilizing power from human muscles.

 To obtain the maximum discharge for power input.

 To reduces rising energy costs.

METHODOLOGY
 Generally give mechanical power to the shaft, and the shaft is connected to pump
which is mounted on bicycle.
 The power generated by pedaling is transferred to the rear sprocket as is done in
bicycle via chain drive. The rear sprocket is connected to pulley, which is connected
to another pulley on the same shaft & axes.
 The power generated is being supplied to the rear sprocket then to the pulley
connected, then to the second pulley connected mounted on the same shaft. The
power by this shaft is transferred to the pump.
 The inlet of the pump is connected to the surge tank via pipe. Outlet of the pump is
connected to the water purifier for purification process. With the help of this setup we
can have a discharge to a certain head if required or we can purify water when
needed.
COMPONENTS USED

Centrifugal pump

Pulley

Bearing

Shaft

Stand

Nut & Bolt

Inlet pipe
PROPOSED MODEL
WORKING PRINCIPLE

In pedal operated water pump when pedal is operated by

human being then human energy is transfer into
mechanical energy and this energy is transfer to sprocket
gear at rear side by chain, from sprocket energy is transfer
to rim, from Rim it is transfer second Pulley, from pulley
energy is transmitted to pump by shaft. So water is sucked
from sump and lifted up to 20 feet to 30 feet.
ADVANTAGES

It is compact and portable.

It is simple and rigid in construction.
Manufacturing cost is lesser than modern water pumping machine.
Power saved and good exercise for all people.
It uses manual power hence no fuel is required.
Operation is ecofriendly.
Less maintenance cost.
The operation is noise free.
APPLICATIONS

Agriculture and irrigation field.

Municipal water works and drainage systems.

Condensing water, condensate, boiler feed, sump drain and other services in a steam

power plant.

 Hydraulic control systems.

Oil pumping, transfer of raw materials, materials in manufacture and the finished

products in industry etc.
