Privacy Concerns
• Hacking – is unlawful interruption into a computer or a network. A hacker can intrude through
the security levels of a computer system or network and can acquire unauthorized access to other
computers.

• Malware – means malicious software which is created to impair a computer system. Common
malware are viruses, spyware, worms and trojan horses.  A virus can delete files from a hard drive
while a spyware can collect data from a computer.

• Data Protection – also known as information privacy or data privacy is the process of safeguarding
data which intends to influence a balance between individual privacy rights while still authorizing
data to be used for business purposes.

• Anonymity – is a way of keeping a user’s identity masked through various applications.

Computing Ethics and Responsibilities
Common sense is a good guide to know what is the appropriate behavior and use of
computers and networks. You should respect the privacy of others and use computing
resources in a manner that is consistent with field and/or context.
Computer Abuse
Computer abuse is the use of a computer to do something improper or illegal. People who
commit computer abuse may be violating university policies, company policies, or federal
law.

as text, music works, movies and software programs is common.
Moreover, many people involved in such activity do not consider themselves to be doing

Use Internet Ethically
Internet ethics means acceptable behavior for using internet. We should be
honest, respect the rights and property of others on the internet. One has to accept
that Internet is not a value free-zone .
Precautions for Email and Chatting
• Internet must be used for communication, we should not use the internet chatting for
communicating with strangers and should not forward the emails from strangers

Pretending Someone Else
We must not use Internet to fool others by pretending to be someone else. Hiding our
own identity to fool others in the Internet world is a crime and may also be a risk to others.
Avoid Bad Language
• We must not use rude or bad language while using e-Mail, chatting, blogging and social
networking, We need to respect their views and should not criticize anyone on the
internet.

•  We should not give personal details like home address, phone numbers, interest,
passwords to anyone
• No photographs should be sent to strangers because it might be misused and shared
with others
