The Lecture Method

The lecture method is the most commonly used method of teaching science where the teacher talks and students are passive listeners. It is a teacher-centered and information-centered approach. While the lecture method allows for delivering information to a large group of students quickly and efficiently, it has disadvantages in that students do not actively participate and there is no confirmation that students understand or are concentrating on the material being taught. The method also lacks opportunities for hands-on learning.

Disadvantages of lecture Method 20XX

• In this method the students participation is negligible, and students

become passive recipients of information.

• We are never sure if the students are concentrating and

understanding the subject matter being taught to them by teacher.

•  There is no place of ‘learning by doing’ and thus teaching by this

method strikes at the very root of science.
