Introduction To Robotics

The document provides an introduction to robotics, including the three laws of robotics, generations of robots from 1970 to present, and basics of robot anatomy. It defines a robot, discusses robotics as an interdisciplinary field, and describes the main components of a robot including links, joints, end effectors, and manipulators. It also outlines the different types of joints in robots such as linear, orthogonal, rotational, revolving, and twisting joints.

LAWS OF ROBOTICS

• The three laws of Robotics are:

I. A robot may not harm humans or, through inaction, allow a
human to come to harm.
II. A robot must obey the orders given by human beings, except
when such orders conflict with the First Law.
III. A robot must protect its own existence as long as it does not
conflict with the First or Second Laws.

Basics of Robotics

ROBOT: It is a multi-functional, reprogrammable manipulator designed to

move material, parts, tools or specialized devices through variable
programmed motions for the performance of variety of tasks.
ROBOTICS: It is a inter-disciplinary research area that involves
 Conception
Design
Manufacture
Operation
of robots.
