detours and redirects
OBJECTIVES OF
PILOT TESTING
 To determine the strength and the weaknesses of a written
or planned curriculum
 To gather empirical data to support whether the material
or the curriculum is useful, relevant, reliable and valid
oFollows some form of research design
oUsually follows an experimental method
oAssures the teachers and the school that indeed the
curriculum materials
are ready to use
STEPS in PILOT TESTING
1. Printed modules were reviewed by the consultants and
peers
2. First try-out
Clarity of instruction
Sufficiency of time
Understanding of the lessons
Purpose:
To guide the curriculum makers to further continue the
other parts of the curriculum materials
2. Second try-out
Done by the students , using complete set of materials
from the advance readings to the field work
Focus on:
• The level of understanding of the words
• Technical terms
• Concepts being developed
Purpose
To provide information for the final revision of the
materials
Final try-out
• Validated the result of the first and the second try outs
• For printing and distribution
CURRICULUM MONITORING
• A periodic assessment and adjustment during the try out period
Purpose: To determine if the curriculum is still relevant and effective.
• Like formative evaluation; one of the important aspects of curriculum devt
• Determines how the curriculum is working, such that the monitoring
report becomes the basis of a sdecision on what aspects have to be
retained, improved or modified.
• 2nd: provide basis if it be retained,or terminated
• Done by module writers, curriculum experts or outside agencies
CURRICULUM EVALUATION
refers to systematic process of judging the value,
effectiveness, and adequacy of a curriculum: its process,
product and setting
Two Ways of Evaluation
 SCHOOL-BASED EVAL’N
Places the content, design, operation, and maintenance of
evaluation procedure in the hands of the school personnel
 ACCREDITATION
voluntary process of submitting a curricular program to an
external accrediting body for review to assure standard

Curriculum implementation is much more than handing out new
materials for courses of study.
It requires an understanding of the program’s purpose, the roles
people will play, and those who are affected.
The process must be planned, but not rigidly.
It requires continued fine-tuning.
It requires a community of trust.
