The Structure of The Xylem & Phloem

The xylem transports water and minerals from the roots to the leaves through hollow tubes formed by dead xylem vessels. These vessels have thick lignin walls to withstand water pressure and pits that allow water to diffuse across the walls. Xylem also contains tracheids, fibers that provide plant support, and parenchyma cells.
