We are living in the 21st Century, where people
are dependent on technology. Now, imagine waking up one day to find no Internet, libraries, and cell phones. Newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and TV channels have also disappeared. Consider the following questions: The Low-tech Future 1. How would you be informed of anything now? 2. What ways would you have to communicate with one another? 3. Media, Information and Literacy Media, Information, and Literacy According to United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), media and information literacy (MIL) recognizes the primary role of information and media in people’s everyday lives. The term is a product of two previously separate fields – media and information. Media, Information, and Literacy Media refers to the physical objects used to communicate with, or the mass communication through physical objects such as radio, television, computers, film, etc. They serve as channels which people use to send/or receive information. Media, Information, and Literacy Information, on the other hand, is a broad term that covers processed data, knowledge derived from study, experience, instruction, signals, or symbols. Media, Information, and Literacy Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning, wherein individuals are able to achieve their goals, develop their knowledge and potential, and participate fully in their community and wider society. Media Literacy Media Literacy Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media in a variety of forms. It aims to empower citizens by providing them with the competencies (knowledge and skills) necessary to engage with traditional media and new technologies. Importance of Media Literacy • It promotes the application of critical thinking skills to a wide range of issues.
• It enables a person to discern what information
is factual, truthful, and objective through critical thinking. Importance of Media Literacy • It enables a person to understand the significant role of the media in the society.
• It enables a person to become competent in

Information Literacy Information Literacy Information literacy is the ability to recognize when information is needed, and to locate, evaluate, and effectively communicate information in its various formats. • It allows a person to discover where to get

the different forms of media which can be used to secure relevant and substantial information. Importance of Information Literacy • It aids students in developing effective research skills essential in enriching their knowledge and enhancing their comprehension.
• It enables a person to utilize essential
information to expand his or her knowledge. Technology Literacy Technology Literacy Technology literacy is the ability of an individual, either working independently or with others, to responsibly, appropriately, and effectively use technological tools. Using these tools an individual can access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information. Importance of Technology Literacy • It enables one to communicate, access, collect, manage, integrate, and evaluate information using technological tools.
• It enables a person to use technology to meet
personal needs, interests, and learning style. Importance of Technology Literacy • It enables a person to recognize the pervasiveness of technology in everyday life, and its risks and benefits.
• It promotes the responsible use of
technology in interacting with other people in the society. Media and Information Literacy Media and Information Literacy • Media and information literacy refer to the essential skills and competencies that allow individuals to engage with media and other information providers effectively, as well as develop critical thinking and life-long learning skills to socialize and become active citizens. Media, Information, and Technology Literacy Media, Information, and Technology Literacy • Media literacy, information literacy, and technology literacy are interrelated as they all play an important role in the student’s learning process. Without information, and individual cannot learn about something. Media and technology are useful tools in conveying the information effectively. These two enable an individual to expand his knowledge and enhance his methods of learning. Despite the differences, media, information, and technology literacy are after the right consumption of information through effective media use and technological means for the benefit of the consumers.
