What is CLAIM

The central argument or thesis statement of the text. It is


what the writer tries to prove in the text by providing
details, explanations and other types of evidence.

3. A claim should be interesting and
engaging

CLAIMS can be Explicit or Implicit

Explicit – obvious and apparent; directly

Implicit- not expressed clearly; only suggested;
indirectly stated.

IMPLICIT
Claim of Fact

Is a statement that of something that has


existed (past), exists (present) or will exist
(future)
Examples:
COVID 19 killed a lot of people.

Titanic sank in the Atlantic ocean.

The death penalty does not prevent crime.

Rodrigo Duterte is our President.

A claim of value is based on preference such
as likes/dislikes (good or bad)

Attempt to prove that some things are more


or less desire than others.
Examples:

1. The Golden State Warrior (GSW) is the


best team in NBA.
2. Toyota are the best brand for cars.
3. Alden Richards is the best actor in the
Philippines.
Claim of Policy
Is a statement that indicates that an action
must be taken in specific policies.

This claim includes words such as: should,


ought, must
Examples:
1. The teacher should be a good example.
2. The students must listen to their teacher
even virtually.
3. We must prioritize PWD in riding public
vehicle.
