INTRODUCTION
This Toolkit contain various ideas of Instructional Materials, both Traditional and
Modern, which teachers can use for specific lessons.
What you will see in this Toolkit are the actual photos of the materials for reference,
the materials to be use in making these Instructional Materials, the specific lesson(s)
where teachers can utilize these and the step-by-step procedure on how to make these.
This Toolkit is very helpful for teachers, for it will provide them creative ideas for
their classes and to boost the students attentiveness and engagement in the Teaching-
Learning Process.
“POCKETS FOR ENGLISH”
• Pocket English is a type of instructional material which can be used to show the students the direct comparison or
conversion of words when applied with different the different topics on a lesson. You can use this in certain lessons
like teaching Synonym, Antonym, Prefix, Suffix and Degree Comparison.
• This is prepared using a folder, glue, color papers, marker, scissors, ruler and pencil. This is prepared by following
these steps: (1.) Get different color papers which will serve as your pockets, (2.) Fold them twice, (3.) Using the
pencil and ruler, draw a pocket and cut it, (4.) Fill the drawing lines using a marker, (5.) Get more color papers
which will serve as the “money” which you will place later inside the pockets, (6.) Fold it to your desired size of
money and cut them. (7.) Write words in the pocket and money which corresponds to the topic(s) you have chosen.
Example: For antonym, write the word “happy” on the pocket and write “unhappy” on the money. (8.) Cover your
folder to make it more presentable and eye catching, you may also opt to design, (9.) Fold the pockets and cut the
upper part (mouth), (10.) Paste the pockets inside the folder. (11.) YouSource:

“EXPLOSION BOX”
• Explosion Box is a type of traditional instructional material which can be used for lessons where there are several underlying
subjects, like Parts of Speech, Figures of Speech, Elements of Poem, Parts of a Story, etc. It can be use in order to catch the attention
of students since it usually looks like a “gift” and the it help the teachers to give the meaning of the terms in the lesson.
• This is prepared using a box with cover, marker, colored papers, cartolina, glue/double sided tape, decorative wrappers, lace/ribbon
(optional). This is done by following these steps: (1.) Cut the edges of the box, (2.) Put double-sided tape on every corner, (3.) Cut
cartolina in four pieces ( same size per side of the box) and do the same on the back part of the box, (4.) Cover the cover of the box
with cartolina also. You may opt to use gift wrapper as cover for the outer part of the box and the cover. (5.) Put colored papers in
the inner part of the box, put each for every side of the box, this is where you will write the topics, (6.) Get another several pieces of
colored paper and fold them several times, this is where you will write the definitions for each topic chosen. (7.) Get another pieces
of colored papers and cut the papers into arrow shape, make several. (8.) Paste the folded papers behind the colored papers placed at
each side of the box, and paste an arrow at tip of each folded papers. (9.) Write the Title of the lesson at the center part and the
several topics at each sides, write also the definitions of each topic in the folded papers. (10.) Assemble to box and put the cover.
(11.) Place a ribbon to make it look like a gift.

FLANNEL GRAPH
• This a traditional instructional material that are used for illustrations. It can be used by the teacher for
story telling, for the students to visualize the story being told. It may illustrate characters, places and
important events happened in the story.
• This is prepared using flannel cloth (printed pictures or drawings), cardboard (optional if the pictures
are printed or drawn), magnet or tape (depending on the surface where you will paste the pictures,
glue. The steps to be followed in making this are: (1.) If you are going to use flannel cloth, sketch the
drawing. / Print the pictures/ Draw the pictures, (2.) Cut the drawings, (3.) If you use flannel cloth,
assemble the parts and paste them in a black flannel cloth that would serve as its outline/ If you are
going to use a printed pictures or drawing, paste the it on a cardboard in order to make it fixed and
durable, so it will not wobble. (4.) Paste the magnet/ tape behind the picture.
ROTATING “TV MONITOR”
GRAPH
• This instructional material can also be used for illustrations, particularly for story-telling, it contains the different
scenes of the story through pictures. This will help the teachers also depict the story so that students may be able to
visualize the story.
• This is prepared using a box, 2 recycled tissue roll tubes, printed or drawn pictures, tape, cartolina or colored papers.
The following procedures in making this are: (1.) Arrange the pictures by scenes, (2.) Combine the scenes by taping
the second scene at the bottom of the first scene, the so on until all the scenes are taped together. (3.) Cut a rectangle
at a longer side of the box. Make sure to spare a border. Cut two circles at each side of the box, make sure that the
circle are parallel to the other side of the box. This is where you will place the cardboard tubes. (4.) Place the tissue
tubes inside the circles, (5.) Tape the top of the picture it the upper tissue tube and the tip of the last scene at the
lower tissue tube. The picture must be facing the rectangular hole. (6.) Decorate the box by using colored papers or
any wrapper you desired.
• This can be operated by scrolling the tissue tubes so the scenes looks like changing like a television show.
PUPPETS
• This instructional material are commonly used for telling stories, or may
serve as a “teacher” .
• There are many kinds of puppets and may use different materials like flannel
cloth and styrofoam globes, felt cloth, paper bags, socks, etc. The procedures
also varies depending on the type of puppet you will be doing. The most
common procedure in making a puppet is the draw parts of the face like
mouth, ears, hair and eyes. You may opt to use googly eyes also.

• This modern instructional media is an online website that can be used for motivation
or evaluation. It is an online website wherein teachers can input questions for the
introduction of the lesson (if for motivation) or for assessing the learning of the
students regarding the lesson discussed (if for evaluation).
• The students will have a fun time and not be pressured in answering the questions
since the graphics and the content of this website is like a virtual game that most of
the kids play. It also contains funny quotations and features like level ups, special
powers and such. It will give an impression to students that there are learning is fun!
VENN DIAGRAM
• This is an instructional material that can be used when the teacher wants to show a
comparison between words in terms of their differences and similarities. This can be used
for lessons such as: adjectives and adverbs, characters comparison in a story analysis and
more.
• This material are prepared using various materials which can either be modern or
traditional. For modern, through power point presentation. For traditional, can be through
illustration boards, manila papers, or even the blackboard.
PUZZLES
• This instructional material are type of materials that will assess students learning of the lesson.
It can be used to various lessons like prefix and suffix and also parts of speech.
• This is prepared using colored papers or cartolina, marker and crayons (if you prefer to put
drawings). The can be done by drawing puzzle lines at the half of the paper and diving those
into several vertical lines, where you will write the examples. And at the top part of the paper,
you may write the topics desired. And cutting them.
• For this particular picture, it was used for the prefix and suffix lesson, where the prefixes are
written at top and the examples were jumbled and the teacher let the students decide where to
put them.
FLASHCARDS
• This instructional material help teachers in able to aid the students learning
through visualizing the lesson. It is used for story-telling of literary pieces.
• These kind of books are available on bookstores, however it may cost
teachers some amount. But, teachers can also be creative enough to create an
improvised picture book from cardboards, illustration boards, cartolina,
plastic covers and spring or yarn and creativity for drawing.
