There are several kinds of banks categorized by ownership. Public banks have a minimum of 7 members from the public who can invest. Private banks are owned and operated by a group of up to 50 people. Nationalized banks were previously private banks that a government took control over to regulate monetary and financial matters. Partnership banks are owned and operated by 2 to 10 partners. Statutory banks are established through special acts of parliament or ordinances, such as the State Bank of Pakistan. Chartered banks receive a charter or license from a monarch to establish, like the Bank of England.

KINDS OF BANKS BY OWNERSHIP
1. Public Banks
These banks are established under Companies Ordinance 1984/Companies Act,2017. Public can
make investment in such type of banks. Minimum members required to form such type of banks
are Seven.

2. Private Banks
These banks are owned and operated by group of people. Maximum number of members should
not be more than Fifty.

3. Nationalized Banks
It is a process in which private banks, run by private sector are nationalized for the purpose of
keeping all monetary and financial matters in its control.
KINDS OF BANKS BY OWNERSHIP
4. Partnership Banks
These are the banks which owned and operated by partners under the Partnership Act,1932.
There should be minimum Two members and maximum Ten.

5. Statutory Banks
These banks are established by passing special Act from the parliament or by issuing an
Ordinance.
E.g. SBP, NBP, ADBP, PICIC, IDBP

6. Chartered Banks
These banks are established by the Charter granted by King/Queen of the country.
E.g. Bank of England
