Operating system
• An operating system is a set of programs that
manages the computer resources and allow
users to communicate with a computer.
• Example-
 Microsoft Windows
 Unix
 Mac OS
Windows 7

• Microsoft Windows 7 is one of


the most popular operating
system. It is based on
Graphical User Interface(GUI).
It provides graphical pictures
and menus to communicate
with computer easily.
COMPONENTS OF WINDOWS 7
DESKTOP
• Desktop is the first screen that appears on the
monitor after the booting process is
completed.
ICONS
• An icons are the mini pictures on the desktop
that represent the program, document, folder
and other files items.
• Example-
WALLPAPER
• A background on which icons are placed. This
background is called a ‘wallpaper’. There are
different wallpaper available in Windows 7. we
can set any pictures or our photograph as the
background.
TASKBAR
• A long horizontal bar at the bottom of the
desktop is the taskbar. It contains start button,
taskbar buttons and notification area.
START BUTTON
• Start button is present at
the left end of the taskbar.
When we click on the start
button, a menu appears on
the computer screen. This
menu is called start menu.
It has a list of programs
which are installed in a
computer.
ABOUT FILES
• A file is an organised and structured collection
of related information stored on a hard disk of
computer.
