A Career in Architecture

Architecture involves designing structures for human habitation and transforming client needs into building concepts and plans. Architects are licensed professionals trained in both art and science who work on design teams. Their roles include design architects who envision the overall look, project architects who ensure the design can be built and meets codes, and construction administrators who oversee building. Draftspersons assist architects by creating drawings, while landscape architects design outdoor spaces. A degree from an accredited program and licensing is required to practice architecture.

What is Architecture?
“Architecture is the thoughtful making of space.”
- Louis Kahn
What is Architecture?
“Architecture is the imaginative blend of art and science in
the design of environments for people. People need places
to eat, work, live and play. Architects transform these needs
into concepts and then develop the concepts into building
images that can be constructed by others.”
- ARCHcareers.org
