MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR NURSING

INTRODUCTION

• Indonesia is one of the country prone to natural disasters


• Rapid disaster management needs to be done including
interdisciplinary, collaborative team effort and the network of
institutions and individual to develop disaster plan.
• Community health nursing is an integral member in response
operation and command centers
• To support government program in disaster, M.H. Thamrin
University School of Nursing performed training of disaster
management based on community approach
Learning Objectives

Participants understand the actions that can be


performed on nursing care in the community at
the stage of pre-disaster ,during and after
disaster to achieve the best level of health of the
affected communities

Participants know the type and character of


the disaster in Indonesia, disaster
management policy in Indonesia

Participants understand the role of nurses in the


SPECIFIC pre-disaster phase:
- Assess hazards, identify the needs of the
emergency phase at the disaster-prone areas
- Perform disaster training to communities
prone to disaster
- Coordinate with the various government
agencies , community organizations, National
Red Cross in providing simulation of disaster
preparedness to community

SPECIFIC
Participants understand the role of
nurses in the post-disaster phase where
nurses assist people to return to normal

physical conditions that may require
longer period of time to return to normal

ACTIVITIES
IMPLEMENTATION
• Day 1
– Lecture
• Introduction to disaster nursing management
• Pre-disaster assessment
• Disaster nursing competencies
– Simulation of pre-disaster assessment at the area surround
campus ( students divided into 4 groups)
– Discussion within each group and presented in the class
– Discussion with coach to make follow up plan on the results of
pre-disaster assessment
• Day 2
– Windshield survey to Kampung Pulo ,the area prone floods
disaster
– Participans divided into 4 group, each group accompanied by one
instructor and conduct assessments at different places
– Participants observe and record the negative and positive
potential are found in the disaster prone areas and seek
information by asking the community and media information on
the site
– Back to campus to discuss the result of windshield survey and
planning

The same location ( scout camp Cibubur)


Management simulation during earthquake, flood, and post-disaster
management simulations.
Case study and disaster management simulation competition
Training was continued with the practice of evacuation in the water
by using the tools of buoys and inflatable boats
Day 5
 Training location at Anyer Beach
 Begins with a windsheld survey of tsunami risk (pre-disaster), then
discussion of nursing process at the stage of pre, during and post
disaster
 Post test individuals for emergency first aid, ropes, evacuation and
disaster management knowledge
 The last activity is simulation of tsunami (Pre, During, Post-Disaster). All
participants performed a simulation in accordance with their respective
roles vigorously and responsibly.

collaboration between MH.Thamrin University
School of Nursing and Community Health Nursing
Education and Reseach Center
CONCLUSION
Nurses have an important role in disaster
management. The importance of training program
in nursing curriculum is designed to provide
students the knowledge and skills so that they can
contribute as their role and function to support
government in the disaster relief efforts in Indonesia
