Assure Model

The ASSURE model is an instructional design model that aims to produce effective teaching and learning. It consists of 6 steps: (1) Analyze learners and understand their characteristics, competencies, and learning styles; (2) State standards and objectives that describe what learners will be able to do; (3) Select strategies, technology, media, and materials to bridge the gap between learners and objectives; (4) Utilize the selected technology, media, and materials by previewing, preparing, and providing a learning experience; (5) Require learner participation through active engagement; (6) Evaluate and revise the lesson by determining if objectives were met and how the lesson can be improved.

ASSURE MODEL

ASSURE is an instructional
design model that has the goal
of producing more effective
teaching and learning.
A – Analyze Learners
The first step in the process is
that the teacher should
analyze the
attributes of
the learners.
Find out:
General Characteristics: age,
gender, culture, ethnicity, work
background, interests, health
 Entry Competencies: Prior
knowledge, skills, attitudes, biases
 Learning Styles: visual, auditory,
tactile/ kinesthetic, logical
S – State Standards and Objectives

Describe what the learner

will do as a result of
instruction
The mark of a good set of learning objectives is
conformity to the ABCDs of well-stated learning
objectives.

Audience: For whom is the objective intended?

Behavior: What is the behavior or performance to
be demonstrated?
Conditions: What are the conditions under which
the behavior or performance will be observed?
Degree: To what degree will the knowledge or
skill be mastered?
S – Select Strategies, Technology,
Media, and Materials
Pick instructional strategies, technology,
and media that will bring about the results
that you want.
Build a bridge between audience and
objective.
Media
Methods Materials
U – Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials

This step in the ASSURE process

concerns making a plan as to how you
will utilize the technology, media, and
materials that you have selected.
It’s important to follow the “five p’s”
process to achieve this:
Preview the Technology, Media, and Materials

Prepare the Technology, Media, and Materials

Prepare the Environment

Prepare the Learners

Provide the Learning Experience

R – Require Learner Participation
Make plans to how you are going to
actively engage your students in the
material that you are teaching.
Allow students to learn rather than
trying to “teach”.
Incorporate discussions, visuals, Q
and A, Workgroups, hands-on activities.
E- Evaluate and Revise
Evaluate the impact of your teaching on
student learning.
The following questions are useful
to ask during this evaluation:
Did your lesson meet the learning
objectives that you planned?
Can this lesson be improved?
Was your choice of media and materials a
good one?
Is it possible that other technologies, media,
and materials would have done a better job?
