computer programming.
Computer technology is used to serve and connect people in

• Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN)


- allows an individual to connect devices (such as a
smartphone) to a desktop machine, or to form a
Bluetooth connection with devices in a car. A wired
personal network is called a PAN (Personal Area
Network).

- is a network of computers within the same building,
such as a school, home or business.

• Wide Area Network (WAN)


- is created when LANs are connected. This requires
media such as broadbrand cables, and can connect up
organizations based in different geographical places.
• Virtual Private Network (VPN)
- is usually hosted securely on another network, such
as the internet, to provide connectivity. VPNs are often to
used when working on secure information held by a
company or school.

which connect to the Ethernet port. Connecting hardware
such as a router has Ethernet ports.

• Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWAN)


WWANs are created through the use of mobile phone
signals typically provided and maintained by specific
mobile phone (cellular) service providers.
WWANs can provide away to stay connected even
when away from other forms of network access.
• Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
WLAN are wireless networks that use radio waves.
The backbone network usually uses cables, with one or
more wireless access points connecting the wireless
users to the wired network. The range of a WLAN can be
anywhere from a single room to entire campus.

• Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN)


WPANs are short-range networks that use Bluetooth
technology. They are commonly used to interconnect
compatible devices near a central location, such as desk.
A WPAN has a typical range of about 30 feet.
Desktop Application
A desktop application means any software that can be
installed on a single computer (laptop or a desktop) and
used to perform specific tasks.
Mobile Application
A mobile application, also referred to as a mobile app
or simply an app, is a computer program or software
application designed to run on a mobile device such as a
phone, tablet, or watch.
