A photoresistor, or light-dependent resistor (LDR), is a component that decreases resistance with increasing light intensity. It can be used in light-sensitive detector circuits and light-activated switching circuits. The document discusses how LDR resistance decreases when light exceeds a certain frequency, allowing electrons to conduct electricity. It then outlines applications of LDR including automatically switching off street lights during the day to save power and acting as a burglar alarm.

APPLICATION OF LDR
•LDR can be made to act as light
sensor to switch off street lights in day time automatically to save power. • LDR can be made to act as burglar alaram in homes and other shops. •LDR is used In many sensors like fire sensor etc. In the dark, a photoresistor can have a resistance as high as several megaohms (MΩ), while in the light, a photoresistor can have a resistance as low as a few hundred ohms. If incident light on a photoresistor exceeds a certain frequency, photons absorbed by the semiconductor give bound electrons enough energy to jump into the conduction band. The resulting free electrons (and their hole partners) conduct electricity, thereby lowering resistance. The resistance range and sensitivity of a photoresistor can substantially differ among dissimilar devices. Moreover, unique photoresistors may react substantially differently to photons within certain wavelength bands. INTRODUCTION A photoresistor ( LDR for Light Decreasing Resistance, or light- dependent resistor) is an active component that decreases resistance with respect to receiving luminosity (light) on the component's sensitive surface. The resistance of a photoresistor decreases with increasing incident light intensity; in other words, it exhibits photoconductivity. A photoresistor can be applied in light- sensitive detector circuits, and light- activated and dark-activated switching circuits. resistance semiconductor. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my physics mentor Shri.Venkateshwaran, for his vital support, guidance and encouragement, without which this project would not have come forth. I would also like to express my gratitude to the staff of the Department of Physics, and all the other staff at Kendriya vidyalaya, sivaganga for their support during the making of this project. CERTIFICATE This is to hereby certify that the original and genuine investigatory project has been completed sincerely and satisfactorily by L.Balamurugan of class 12, Kendriya vidyalaya, Sivaganga regarding his project “STUDY OF LDR AND ITS APPLICATION” as per the CBSE practical work requirement for the session 2019- 2020 and all India senior school certificate practical (AISSCE).
