SCADA SYSTEM OVERVIEW
SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) is a category of software
application program for process control and monitoring.
Gathering of data in real time from remote locations and makes it at control
center in order to control equipment and conditions
SCADA System connects two distinctly different environments through the
communication network.
The Field ( Location of equipment’s)
The Control center ( Location of Operator)
SCADA System include hardware and software components. The hardware
gathers and feeds data into a server that has SCADA software installed. The server
then processes this data and presents it in a timely manner. SCADA also records and
logs all events &alarms.

Auxiliary power supply equipment’s located in RSS, TSS and ASS in the Mainline
and Depot power supply system.
SCADA SYSTEM COMMUNICATION NETWORK AND
PROTOCOLS

INTRODUCTION TO RTU
Remote Terminal Unit – Interface
Power Supply equipment’s
IED devices in AC/DC power supply equipment’s at ASS&TSS communicate with
RTU on IEC 61850 Communication protocol.
Energy Meters in power supply equipment’s at ASS/TSS communicate with RTU
on Modbus RS 485 Communication protocol.
Remaining all power supply equipment’s at ASS/TSS and track side
communicate with RTU through hardwired cable connection.
ETS
ETS equipment’s communicate with RTU through hardwired cable connection.
DATA EXCHANGE & PROCESS BETWEEN FIELD, RTU &
SERVER
RTU receives Digital and Analog Input data (DI/AI) from field equipment’s for
monitoring and send output data (DO) to field equipment’s for controlling, on different
protocol through I/O modules as well as communication modules.
RTU interfaces with SCADA server at OCC/BCC on backbone ring network and
exchanges data through IEC 60870-5-104 protocol communication module( EIS001).
SCADA Server process the monitoring data from RTU and transmit accordingly to HMI
for display. (Monitoring)
Analog inputs of different types including 4 to 20 mA, 0 to10V, etc. SCADA server
process and translates this raw data into the appropriate units such as
current/voltage/power etc before displaying in HMI
Server process the control data from HMI and transmit accordingly to RTU
(Controlling)
In control application RTU drives high current capacity relays through a digital output
(DO) board to switch power On and Off to devices in the field. The DO board switches
voltage to the coil in the relay, which closes the high current contacts, which completes
the power circuit to the device.

initiate alarm and display in HMI.
Inter tripping will be executed through RTU communication. RTU receives Inter trip
OUT signal from NRP and accordingly send inter trip IN to NRP at adjacent stations
to trip HSCB’s.
Yellow indication light will be displayed in ETS box on tripping of HSCB’s to
indicate the de-energized status.
Only possible to re -energize the tripped sections if the ETS pushbutton reset by
the key.
