WHAT IS COLOUR

• Colour is a property of light .When sunlight


is passed through the prism, the rays are
bent because the light is separated into its
component colour i.e.
red,orange,yellow,green,blue,indigo and
violet .

• Colour is a powerful tool tied to


religious,cultural,political and social
influence. It effects moods can
communicate it has cultural significance
and it has political associations. Religion
can also be linked to colour. Colour
communicates meaning and so we need to be
conscious of what meaning we are conveying
when we choose to use one colour over another.

COMPLEMENTARY&ANALOGOUS

• Complementary colours are opposites on the


colour wheel and can create harmony .
• Analogous colours are group of three colours .
THE LANGUAGE OF COLOUR

• Colour can fool the eye . At the same distance ,


warm coloured objects appear closer then cool-
ones. we can visually enlarge a small room e.g.
by painting the walls a cool colours.
• Dark and light colours also create illusions There
are so many ways to choose colours and so many
ways to mix them .
WHAT IS HUE

• The specific name of a colour is its hue ,Hue is


the feature of colour that makes one colour
different from others . Each colour on the colour
wheel is hue. Black white and grey do not appear
on colour wheel because they have no hue. They
are called neutral colours because they are
neutral they blend with other colours.
INTENSITY

• The brightness or dullness of a colour is


referred to as its intensity .purity and
strength are other terms of intensity .
INTENSITY OF COLOUR
VALUE

• The amount of white or black in a colour


determines its value .The basic hues in the colour
wheel are known as middle or normal values.
ADDING white to a hue raises its value and the
result is tints like pink is the tint of red similarly
adding black to a hue lowers its value and the
result is shade that is below its normal value like
navy is a shade of blue .

CONCLUSION

• Colour has great expressive qualities so , it is


important to understand what it is and how we
see it . Every colour is the combination of
reflected light waves. Hue is the name of a colour
in the colour spectrum , and red yellow and blue
are the primary hues in pigments. Value is the
element of art that describes the darkness or
lightness of a colour .Intensity is the brightness
or dullness of a hue.

• The light value of a hue is called a tint and a dark


value of a hue is called shade. Colour can also be
used to create illusions of depth and a sense of
movement. Warm colours seems comforting and
Cool colours seems mysterious and when the
values in a work change quickly a feelings of
excitement and movement is created .
