Self Compacting Concrete

Self-compacting concrete is a concrete mix that has low yield stress, high deformability, good segregation resistance, and moderate viscosity, allowing it to flow and consolidate under its own weight without vibration. It is produced through modifying the mix design by limiting aggregate size, optimizing binder content and water-binder ratio, and adding chemical and mineral admixtures such as superplasticizers and viscosity modifying admixtures. SCC has advantages over traditional vibrated concrete such as reduced permeability, improved quality and durability, and reduced labor requirements.
