Technical Master Data

Internal Slide
Topic 3: Technical Master Data
 Technical Master Data and Business Master Data are
maintained in the system.

 Technical Master Data is data pertaining to installing

of a device for a consumer.

 Business Master Data is data related to a consumer.

Internal Slide
Topic 3: Technical Master Data
 Device Management constitutes
 Technical Master Data
 Technology
 Device installations
 Meter Readings.

 Technology involves storing technical information related

to the devices (meters, current transformers and potential
transformers), in the system.
 Device Installation refers to putting a device in to the
system.
 Meter Readings is the procedure for entering and
processing meter readings into the system.

Topic 4: Device Relationship
 Numbers in System :
 Device Number (Serial Number) : It is the actual Meter or
CT/PT number. (From now on even CT/PT numbers will be
maintained in the system). It is unique for every device.
Usually while referring to a device we will use this number.

 Equipment Number : Its an internal number assigned by the

system for its reference.

 Material Number : It is nothing but the Device Category

number.

 Register : Measures consumption and energy. It can

exist physically or as a display in electronic devices

Internal Slide
Topic 6: Meter Reading
 Meter Reading is recording of energy usage at a
particular premise.

 Before actual meter reading process begins, it needs to

be scheduled.

 A Factory Calendar is maintained, which specifies the

working days and holidays for the year

Internal Slide
Topic 6: Meter Reading
 Scheduling needs to done for meter reading and
billing both.

 Scheduling is creation of schedule dates for meter

reading and billing.

 For scheduling Schedule Master Records are to be

created.

 Schedule Master Records for billing are called

‘Portions’ (Cycle).

Internal Slide
Topic 6: Meter Reading
 Master Records for meter reading are called Meter
Reading Units or MRUs (books).

 Portions(cycles) signify all consumers to be billed on the

same day where as Meter Reading Units signify all the
consumers whose meter readings are to be taken on the
same day.

 Schedule Records are created on the basis of Schedule

Master Records and creation of schedule records is an
annual activity.
 MRUs may be created as and when required.

Street route defines the sequence in which the devices in a service
territory are to be read. Doing this can optimize the meter reader’s route.
Internal Slide
Topic 6: Meter Reading
 Meter Reading can be

 Periodic meter reading (based on schedule records-

monthly)

 Aperiodic meter reading

– Interim meter reading with billing at the time of Move – Out
– Interim meter reading without billing (Check reading)
– Control reading

 Resulting from a process like

– Customer Move- In
– Device Removal

Internal Slide
Meter Reading Order
• Meter Reading Orders are:
 Prerequisite for a Meter Reading
 Display all data needed for meter
reading:
Date
Device Number
Expected meter reading.
 Can be printed or transferred to
MRI.

Internal Slide
Mass Orders: Background Job
 Mass orders are often scheduled as background jobs, &
run during the night.

 The background jobs can be started, for

example
 On a certain date/time of day
 After another job
 After an event

Internal Slide
Upload/ Download of Meter Readings

Internal Slide
Entry of Meter Readings
 Meter Readings are entered either through mass upload
(periodic readings).

 Meter Readings can also be entered manually (Check

readings).

 Meter Readings can also be estimated using criteria

already entered into the system.

 Meter Readings are then validated by the system.

Internal Slide
Meter Reading Validation

Correction Implausible Release

Meter Reading
Validations Plausible
Results

Internal Slide
Correction of Meter Readings
 Implausible meter readings are thrown out by the
system based on certain pre-defined criteria.

 These need to be corrected and/or released by the

screening department.

 Even readings that are shown plausible by the

system can be changed manually.

 A Re-reading order can be generated to again take

readings for certain meters.

 It is possible to estimate meter readings during

correction of meter readings.
Internal Slide
Meter Reading Reversal
 It is possible to reverse a meter readings entered if it
not processed for billing.

 During reversal of meter reading, meter reading order

is deleted.

 Billing Order for that reading (if created) is also

deleted.

 The Meter Reading Result is deleted.

Internal Slide
Factory Calendar
• The creation of scheduled, service orders and meter
reading orders is based on the Factory Calendar which
is set up in the system.

• Factory Calendar is made up of public holidays and

company assigned holidays.

• These holidays can be

1.Fixed public holidays e.g., Independence Day, New Year Day,
etc which have same date every year or
2. Non fixed holidays for example Holi which is 26th March in
year 2005 but on 15th March in 2006, for these holidays input is
given before the beginning of each year

Summary

Internal Slide
Topic7: Summary
 Device Management constitutes
 Technical Master data
 Device Relationships
 Meter Reading
 Service Orders

 Technical Master Data is information required for

installing a device on customer site.

 In Device Relationship device related information is

maintained.
 Information of devices include information like basic device
category, device category, register groups or winding groups.

Internal Slide
Topic7: Summary
 Service Orders relate installation /removal and
replacement information of devices

 Devices need to be installed technically and billing related.

 Devices need to removed technically and billing related.

 Devices can be replaced with devices of same or similar

device category.

Internal Slide
Topic7 : Summary
 Finally Meter Readings are to be taken and
processed for the devices.

 Scheduling needs to be carried out for Meter Reading.

 Meter Reading Orders have to be created for performing

Meter Reading.

 Meter Readings are entered into the system through mass

upload, or manually.

 Meter Readings are validated in the system.

 Meter Readings can be corrected or reversed.
