Measurement: 2017 MTAP Dep-Ed - NCR Seminar Workshop in Mathematics Grade 7

This document provides information and examples about measurement concepts including perimeter, area, and volume. It begins with tasks involving measuring the perimeter of different shapes using a yarn or ruler. It then defines perimeter and provides formulas for calculating the perimeter of triangles, squares, rectangles, parallelograms, and other shapes. Similar sections define area and provide formulas. The document concludes with word problems applying concepts of perimeter, area, and volume measurement to real-world geometry applications. Fifteen challenging problems are worked through as examples.

Part B
Challenge!
1) The length of a field is 25 m longer than its width.
If the perimeter is 148 m, find its dimensions.

Solution
Challenge!
2) The perimeter of a rectangle is 60 cm. Its length is
twice its width. Find its length.

Solution

The length
measures 20cm.
3) A rectangular yard is 16 m by 25 m. The owner wants
to fence it with hollow blocks 1.5 meters high except for
the 2 meters for the gate. A hollow block measures 30 cm
by 15 cm. Approximately, how many blocks will be
needed for the fence?
Solution

The total number of

blocks needed in the
fence is 2667 pieces.
4) One hundred tiles of a certain size are needed to pave
a floor. If a tile, which measures 4 cm less on each side
will be used, 225 tiles will be needed. Find the size of
the larger tile.
Solution

The larger tile measures

12 x 12 units.
5) The class officers decided to put up a Christmas tree on
the wall using garlands. The design of the Christmas tree has
three equilateral triangles where each side measures 12 in,
15 in, and 20 in, respectively. How many inches of garland
will be needed to make it possible?
Solution
12 inches Ptriangle-1 = 12 x 3 = 36 in
Ptriangle-2 = 15 x 3 = 45 in
15 inches
Ptriangle-3 = 20 x 3 = 60 in

The total length of the garland

20 inches needed is 141inches.
6) How many parallel parking spaces can a city
planner fit in an area 15 ft x 105 ft if the spaces
must be arranged at a 45º angle and are 10 ft wide?
How much space is wasted?
Solution

15 ft

105 ft
7) Find the area of each section of the wooden frame
if the picture itself is 16” x 8” and the overall
dimensions are 20” x 12”.
