INTRODUCTION

▣ Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)

- provide reserve military personnel in times of


struggles like emergence of war and prepares
students for careers in the military and helps
them develop leadership skills (study.com, 2017).

- In the past few years, the ROTC program was


being conducted in colleges here in the
Philippines, but became a controversial program
in which it was already cancelled from being
implemented mandatorily in the year 2002,
making it as an optional choice for college
students until now (untv.web.com, 2018).

- Senior high schools in the Philippines do not
have a ROTC program yet.
- Through the proposal of President Rodrigo
Duterte, mandatory ROTC will be instituted
soon to the senior high schools nationwide.

Statement of the Problem

▣ The study generally aims to understand the


perception of Grade 11 students on the
institution of mandatory ROTC as mandatory
to senior high school yet is offered optionally
for college students

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the


following questions:
▣ 1. What are the perceptions of the Grade 11
students concerning on the institution of
ROTC as mandatory to senior high school?
▣ 2. What are the known reasons thought by the
Grade 11 students of having ROTC as
mandatory for senior high school but is not
compulsory in college?
▣ 3. What are the administered advantages and
disadvantages of mandatory ROTC?

Significance of the Study

This study is deemed significant to:


▣ This research will provide information that will
be beneficial to the grade 11 students to
understand the ROTC program and its
implication to them. It is also helpful them to
have enough preparation to the possible
instances that they can face when
undergoing the training.

▣ Also, teachers, persons-in-charge and the
government will be able to know the
perception of the students and this will be
useful for the betterment and improvement of
the said program.
▣ Lastly, this study will be beneficiary to future
researchers it will be helpful in their own study
for it will be able to impart information about
the perception of the students about the
ROTC as mandatorily implemented.

Scope and Delimitation

▣ The study will only be focusing on the


discussions about the perceptions of the
grade 11 students in SLS regarding the
institution of mandatory ROTC to senior high
school which opposite for colleges having it
optional for them.
▣ The use of in-depth interview with open
ended questions will be helpful in
understanding the personal views of the
students.

Scope and Delimitation

▣ In selecting the respondents, the researchers


will be using purposive sampling technique.
▣ The expected number of respondents that will
undergo in-depth interview will be at most 10
▣ The said research is delimited on grade 12
students of SLS for they are about to graduate
and are not covered by the said program.
▣ Also, the grade 10 students of junior high
school are not anymore within the scope of
the study

▣ The perceptions of parents and teachers of


SLS may be given credits but is not included
for the study is only focused on the
perceptions of SLS senior high school
students who will undergo ROTC, mainly the
chosen grade 11 students.

Research Design

▣ This study is qualitative in nature because the


research questions to be answered lead to
qualitative or narrative data.
▣ Specifically, the research study will use
grounded theory method to gather data. It
will be used to study and know further the
understanding and perceptions of the
respondents as Grade 11 students of Saint
Louis School regarding the issue of the
institution of mandatory ROTC in Senior High
School.

Our process is easy

In-depth one-on-one interview guide questions will be made and


identifying of the participants through a purposive sampling
technique will be done.
The researchers would then seek for the approval of
the research adviser to conduct the data gathering
procedure among the selected participants from the
grade 11 sections.
