Determinants of Strand Preferences Among Grades 9 and 10 Students of Mendez Christian Academy: Basis For Career Counseling
This study aims to determine the factors influencing the choices of strands among 9th and 10th grade students at Mendez Christian Academy. Little local research exists to guide career counseling. The study will examine students' demographic profiles, academic strengths/weaknesses via grades, and skills both academic and technical. It uses a descriptive research design and self-developed questionnaire with 15 9th graders and 15 10th graders as respondents. The results intend to aid career guidance for junior high students confused about senior high school tracks.

Counseling Badgette, Esther Grace Ferma, Czarisse Maereen Ronario, Niña Raquel Background of the Study: • Research Gap: Little to no local context and references for the effective and efficient counseling in choosing the proper track and strand. • Addressing the Research Gap: Providing an in-depth research on the determinants and preferences of the Junior High school in the academic year 2018-2019. Background of the Study: • Since the implementation of Republic Act 10533 or the “Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013” students have been baffled in choosing the most appropriate track. These tracks are as follows but not limited to academic, technical-vocational and livelihood, and sports tracks. Background of the Study: • Many students especially those who are in 9th and 10th grade are confused regarding what strand they will to pursue • Junior high students lack mindfulness of senior high school stands • Some senior high students are not happy with their current strand Background of the Study: • There are some cases where senior high graduates have to take additional subject for college because their strand is not aligned on the course they took • In order to address these problems, the researchers will conduct a study to investigate the determinants or factors affecting junior high students in choosing high school strands Objectives of the Study • To determine the socio-demographic profile or characteristics of the respondents
