Under The Guidance of Ms. S. Thangalakshmi

1) The document describes a microcontroller based system to control electrical appliances and motor speed using an IR remote control. 2) An AT89C51 microcontroller is used along with TRIACs, relay drivers and a transistor circuit to drive an IR LED for transmitting signals from the remote. 3) An IR receiver circuit receives commands from the remote to control on/off states of appliances and increase or decrease motor speed. This allows remote control of appliances and variable speed control of AC motors.

OBJECTIVE
1) To construct a MC-89C51 basic prototype with
regulated 5V supply & other designed components.

2) To construct Relay Device Circuit to run actual

Electrical Appliance interface.

3) To design and construct a traic driver circuit for motor

speed or Bulb intensity control.

4) To write a program in assembly to run the project and

transfer the designed Hex file in microcontroller with a
suitable program device having serial port interfacing.
MICROCONTROLLER-89C51

•16-bit address bus and 8-bit data bus.

• Internal 4Kbytes of ROM and 256 bytes of RAM.

•4 Kbytes of Flash

•128 bytes of RAM

• 32 I/O lines

• Two16-bit timer/counters
MICROCONTROLLER-89C51

•Five vector, two-level interrupt architecture

• Full duplex serial port

• On chip oscillator and clock circuitry

PIN CONFIGURATION
TRIAC

•The TRIAC is a three-terminal device.

•The TRIAC controls and conducts current flow during both

alternations of an ac cycle, instead of only one.

•The TRIAC is essentially two SCRs back to back, with a

common gate and common terminals.
RELAY DRIVERS

A relay is an electro-magnetic switch which is

useful if you want to use a low voltage circuit to
switch on and off a light bulb (or anything else)
connected to the 220v mains supply.

APPLICATION

Imagine the convenience of selecting TV channels

using your remote and then pointing the same remote
to your switchboard to switch on/off the fan or the tube
light.
IF TRANSMITER
A simple transistor circuit can be used to drive
the LED
the nominal voltage drop over an IR LED is
approximately 1.1V.
The normal driver, described above, has one
disadvantage. As the battery voltage drops,
the current through the LED will decrease as
well. This will result in a shorter control
distance that can be covered.
An emitter follower circuit can avoid this. The 2
diodes in series will limit the pulses on the
base of the transistor to 1.2V. The base-emitter
voltage of the transistor subtracts 0.6V from
that, resulting in a constant amplitude of 0.6V
at the emitter. This constant amplitude across
a constant resistor results in current pulses of
a constant magnitude. Calculating the current
through the LED is simply applying Ohm's law
again.
