S3.2 (ARFM) Spectrum Making 5G A Reality - 20mar

The document discusses spectrum bands being considered for 5G networks in Vietnam. It outlines possible new bands for 5G including lower bands below 1 GHz and millimeter wave bands up to 86 GHz. Key bands being considered for 5G in Vietnam are the C-band (3.3-4.2 GHz), 2.3 GHz, and millimeter wave bands around 24-29 GHz. There are challenges to addressing interference between mobile services and existing fixed satellite services in the C-band, and evaluating coverage for millimeter wave bands. Field trials are recommended to study interference mitigation and coverage for different bands.

 4.5-4.8 GHz 4.8-4.99 GHz

5
Challenging On Bands Being Considered

C band:
 Interference with FSS Earth station (to define filter, GB, distance separation, …)
mmW bands:
 Effect of massive MIMO
 Indoor and outdoor coverage
 EMF
Other bands:
 Support IMT/5G introduction in L-band, 2.1 GHz MSS, 2.3 GHz, 4.9 GHz
Other:
 Harmonization (eco-system, border coordination, 3.8-4.2 GHz, 26 GHz vs 28 GHz…)
 Spectrum usage fee (GHz block vs MHz block)
Finding The Answers

Field trials:
• Jan. 2019,Viettel Group – 1st get 5G trial permission in C-band and mmW.
• C band: define measures to eliminate interference btw. IMT & Earth station
• mmW (24.25-29.5GHz band):
- To verify indoor and outdoor coverage
- Stability in different weather condition
- Effect of massive MIMO + beamforming in improving coverage
• Other bands: practical pfd limit applied to 4.9GHz and AI 1.13 bands at WRC-19

ASEAN’s SSM group to discuss more about 5G spectrum.

Wrap up & Recommends

 Focus on C band and 26/28 GHz

 Sharing experiences on developing 5G policy.

 Compatibility between IMT and FSS-ES in C band.

 ASEAN’s ATRC spectrum group (SSM) to promote the

introduction of 5G: spectrum harmonization, border
coordination, develop practical pfd limit (on 4.9 GHz and WRC-19
AI 1.13) to facilitate 5G implementation, …
