1 6 Geometric Sequence

This document discusses geometric sequences. It defines a geometric sequence as a sequence where each term is obtained by multiplying the previous term by a constant ratio. The document provides examples of geometric sequences and their common ratios. It derives the formula for the nth term of a geometric sequence. Students are asked to find terms of given geometric sequences and determine geometric sequences based on given terms using the formula.

Definition

A geometric sequence is a sequence in which

a term is obtained by multiplying the
preceding term by a constant number, called
common ratio, r.
Tell whether the sequence is arithmetic, geometric or
neither. If it is arithmetic, find the common difference;
if it is geometric, find the common ratio.
