Master and slave controller

Once the controller is powered, it will automatically start up:

• If it is the first and only controller that is connected to the
indoor unit, it will automatically get designated as master
controller.
• For a second controller to get designated as slave controller,
manual action is required.
The following functions are not available for slave controllers:
▪ "Auto" operation mode
▪ Individual airflow direction
▪ Filter auto clean
▪ Setback temperature setpoints
▪ Draught prevention
▪ Duty rotation

Master and slave controller: designate a controller as slave

A master controller is already connected to the indoor unit.

1. Connect a second controller.

Result: It will start up automatically.

2. Wait for a U5 or U8 error to appear on the screen.

3. When the U5 or U8 error appears, press and keep it
pressed until "2" appears on the screen.

Result: The controller is now designated as slave.

Switch Cooling/Heating master

When multiple indoor units are connected to the

same outdoor unit, there are restrictions as to
the operation modes in which they can run. One
outdoor unit does not allow for one indoor unit to
perform Cooling operation, while another
performs Heating operation.

Therefore, the system requires that one indoor

unit is set as cooling/heating master. This
indoor unit then decides the operation modes in
which the other (slave) indoor units can run.
When one indoor unit is set as cooling/heating
master, the other indoor units automatically
become its slaves.

05 Functions
Duty Rotation

28 BRC1H Service Training - Internal use only

Duty Rotation and Backup

This function is available if more than one unit is connected on the

P1P2 connection (group control) of the user interface and if all
these units support this function. This function is called ‘Rotation’
and is part of the main menu as a hidden menu item (push 4
seconds on the menu button to make it visible).

This function is designed for units operation in critical applications

(e.g. in server rooms that require lots of cooling). In this case, the
system is equipped with an extra backup unit which remain
inactive during normal operation.

29 BRC1H Service Training - Internal use only

After a set time, the inactive unit will
start operating and a previously active
unit will become inactive, which allows
the unit to take a break.

if an active unit goes into error,

Rotation makes sure the inactive one
takes over.

30 BRC1H Service Training - Internal use only

Large systems:
If the number of indoor units is too high (e.g.> 4) it is advised to create 2 (or more) groups
of indoor units. Each group will then be under control of one UI and have one back-up unit.
Each group will work independently and will have its own rotation cycle, overlap time and
back-up unit.

This table shows –as a rule of thumb- the amount of units per group:

No. of indoor units No. of groups No. of Remocon No. of Back-up Units
1–4 1 1 1
5–8 2 2 2

Important notes:

1. Central controllers can override External Input Interlock functions!

2. Fan speed is stored for Heating and Cooling only/Dry/Fan mode separately. Reset
conditions and B1 & B2 contacts have no effect on these states.
3. Setback heating and cooling setpoints are not affected by this control either.
4. Both input (functions) B1 and B2 can be disabled through field settings 1c-12 and
