Computer Hardware Components

The document summarizes key computer hardware components. It describes a hard disk for storing large amounts of data, RAM for temporary memory storage, a motherboard that holds crucial components like the CPU, and a CD-ROM for reading optical discs. It also outlines the functions of a keyboard for typing, mouse for cursor control, processor for processing instructions, power supply for converting and regulating electricity, and VGA card for graphics display.

COMPUTER HARDWARE

COMPONENTS
HARD DISK
•  A hard disk is part of a unit, often called a "disk drive," "hard drive," or “hard
drive” that stores.
• Hard disk provides relatively quick access to large amounts of data on an
electromagnetically charged surface or set of surfaces
• Today's computers typically come with a hard disk that contains several
billion bytes
RAM
• RAM – Random Access Memory
• A type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly
• RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and other
devices
• There are two different types of RAM: DRAM
• The two types differ in the technology they use to hold data
MOTHER BOARD
• A motherboard is the central printed circuit board (PCB) in many modern
computers and holds many of the crucial components of the system
• The motherboard contains the CPU, BIOS, memory, mass storage
interfaces, serial andparallel ports, expansion slots
CD - ROM
• CD-ROM (Compact Disc, read-only-memory)
• CD-ROM is an adaptation of the CD that is designed to store computer data
in the form of text and graphics, as well as hi-fi stereo sound.
KEY BOARD
• A keyboard is typewriter keyboard, which uses an arrangement of buttons
or keys, to act as mechanical levers or electronic switches
• In normal usage, the keyboard is used to type text and numbers into a word
processor, text editor or other program.
• A keyboard is also used to give commands to the operating system of a
computer
MOUSE
• A device that controls the movement of the cursor or pointer on a
display screen.
• A mouse is a small object you can roll along a hard, flat surface. Its name is
derived from its shape.
• As you move the mouse, the pointer on the display screen moves in the
same direction.
• Some newer mice also include a scroll wheel for scrolling through long
documents.
PROCESSOR
• A processor is the logic circuitry that responds to and processes the basic
instructions that drive a computer.
• The term processor has generally replaced the term central processing unit
(CPU). The processor in a personal computer or embedded in small devices
is often called a microprocessor.
POWER SUPPLY
• Also called a power supply unit or PSU, the component that supplies power
to a computer.
• The power supply then pulls the required amount of electricity and converts
the AC current to DC current.
• It also regulates the voltage to eliminate spikes and surges common in most
electrical systems.
VGA CARD
• VGA - Visual Graphics Array Adapter
• a graphics display system for PCs developed by IBM.
• GA systems provide a resolution of 720 by 400 pixels. In graphics mode, the
resolution is either 640 by 480 (with 16 colors) or 320 by 200 (with 256
colors).
