Chapter 8

The sampling error is the difference between a sample statistic and its corresponding population parameter. For example, the difference between the sample mean (X) and the population mean (μ), or the difference between the sample standard deviation (s) and the population standard deviation (σ). When random samples are taken from a population, sampling error is the amount of variation between the sample statistic and the true population parameter.
