Seminar

This document discusses topological quantum computing. It begins by defining quantum computing and topology. It then explains that topological quantum matter exploits topological properties even at small scales. Topological quantum computing uses quasiparticles called anyons that form stable braids to encode qubits. This allows topological quantum computers to be more fault-tolerant than traditional designs.

QUANTUM COMPUTING :

• Use of Quantum mechanical phenomena like

Superposition and Entanglement for computation.

• Uses Quantum bits or Qubits.

TOPOLOGY:

• A branch of Mathematics that focuses on the

fundamental properties of objects.

• Topological properties don’t change when an object is

gradually stretched or bent. The object has to be torn or
attached in new places.

TOPOLOGICAL QUANTUM MATTER:

• Even microscopic matter at the smallest scale can exhibit

macroscopic properties and phases that are topological.

• Revolutionized the fields of material science, electronic

engineering , etc.

• Applications :
1. Fractional quantum hall effect
2. Topological Insulator
TOPOLOGICAL QUANTUM COMPUTING:

• A theoretical quantum computer that employs two-

dimensional Quasiparticles called Anyons.

• Much more stable compared to quantum computer based

on trapped particles.

• Alexei Kitaev proposed topological quantum

computation in 1997.
ANYONS:

• A type of Quasiparticle that occurs only in two-

dimensional systems.

• Generally classified as Abelian and Non-abelian

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION:

SUMMARY:

 Topological Quantum Computers are theoretical

Quantum Computers which use Non-Abelian Anyons to
form braids using their world-lines which can be used as
Qubits.

 Topological Quantum Computer is highly stable

compared to standard Quantum Computer as noise
cannot cause error in the calculation.
