OBJECTIVES OF SIP

1 To offer the opportunity for the young students to acquire on job the skills,
knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions along with the experience needed to
constitute a professional identity.

2 To provide means to immerse students in actual supervised professional


experiences.
3 To give an insight into the working of the real organizations.

4 To gain deeper understanding in specific functional areas

5 To appreciate the linkages among different functions and departments

6 To develop perspective about business organizations in their totality.

7 To help the students in exploring career opportunities in their areas of interest.


KEY ASPECTS OF SIP
• SIP may be a research Project based on Primary / Secondary data.
OR
SIP may be also an assignment involving working by the student on a
given task / assignment/ Project etc. in an organization or Industry.

• Each student must have undertaken a Summer Internship Project


(SIP) for minimum 8 weeks.

• Ideally the SIP should exhibit a cross functional orientation.

• The completion of the SIP has to be certified by the respective


Faculty Guide & approved by the Director of the Institute. The
external organization shall also have to certify the SIP work.

CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION

• Introduction (Concept and context of the SIP)

• Objectives of the SIP

• Scope and Limitations of the SIP


CHAPTER 2 - PROFILE OF ORGANISATION
• Name, Address and Location of the company

• Vision and Mission of the Organization

• Historical Background of the Organization

• Organizational Chart

• Current status of the organization

• Different product profiles / market offerings of the company

• Future Plans of the organization

• Any other relevant information of the organization -


National/International participation or recognition / awards etc.
CHAPTER 3 – PROJECT METHODOLOGY

In case SIP is a Research Project based on Primary / Secondary data, following points should be
included in the chapter of Project Methodology.

1. Sources of Data Collection –

A) Primary Source (To be mentioned in report as applicable)

B) Secondary Source (To be mentioned in report as applicable)

2. Sample Description (only if applicable)

3. Other relevant aspects of research (if any)

OR
If SIP is an assignment involving working by the student on a given task / assignment / project etc. in
an organization or industry, following points should be included in the chapter of Project
Methodology.

1. Nature of task / assignment / project

2. Brief description of process / method followed for execution of task / assignment / project
(preferably in flow chart format)
CHAPTER 4 - CONCEPTUAL BACKGROUND
• Discussion of concepts involved in the SIP - For example, If the SIP
involves work done on ‘Working Capital Management’, the
concepts related with ‘Working Capital Management’ should be
discussed.

• Sectoral analysis – Analysis of the sector of the company (For


example if the company is from Telecommunication sector, the
analysis of the Telecommunication sector should be included in the
SIP report). This will also include analysis of business environment
affecting the sector and company.
CHAPTER 5 - DATA PRESENTATION, DATA ANALYSIS AND DATA INTERPRETATION

In case SIP is a Research Project based on Primary / Secondary data, following should be
included in Chapter 5.

• Presentation and analysis of data through relevant activity charts, tables, graphs,
diagrams, etc.

• Interpretation of data

OR
If SIP is an assignment involving working by the student on a given task / assignment /
project etc. in an organization or industry, following should be included in Chapter 5.

1. Detailed discussion of each stage of the project’s process / method – Chapter 3 contains
brief description of project’s process (preferably in flow chart format) whereas this
chapter i.e. Chapter 5 should include detailed discussion of each stage of that process.

2. Relevant activity charts, tables, graphs, diagrams, etc. to be included in this chapter as
applicable.
CHAPTER 6 - FINDINGS , SUGGESTIONS, UTILITY OF THE PROJECT TO
THE ORGANIZATION, LEARNING FROM PROJECT AND CONCLUSION

1. Findings

2. Suggestions

3. Utility of the project to the organization – This should include


the project’s contribution to organization and how it is useful for
organization.

4. Learning from the project – This should include what student


has learnt through SIP

SUBMISSION OF SIP REPORT
• The student shall submit 2 hard copies & 1 soft copy (CD) of the
project report.
• One hard copy will be returned to the student by the Institute
after the External Viva Voce.

EVALUATION OF SIP
• The Institute shall conduct SIP Presentation and Internal Viva-Voce
for evaluation of the SIP and allocation of internal marks (out of
50) for SIP.
• There shall be an External Viva-Voce for the SIP for 50 marks.
• Regular discussion about SIP Report with Faculty Guide and
scrupulously following the guidelines given by SIP Guide for SIP
Report preparation are important criteria for internal marks
allocation.
EVALUATION OF SIP

The SIP Presentation, Internal & External Viva-Voce shall be


evaluating the SIP based on:

1. Actual work undertaken by the student

2. Student’s understanding of the organization and business


environment

3. Outcome of the project

4. Utility of the project to the organization

5. Basic analytical capabilities
