Interactive vs. Batch Processing
Interactive
 Starts when you enter system and ends when you exit system
 Holds “conversation” with system
 System acts on each request upon reception

Batch
 Predefined group of processing actions which require little or no
interaction with the computer
 Jobs submitted to job queue where they wait to be processed

26
Working with Interactive & Batch Versions
 A version is a unique identifier for a
batch and interactive application. Most
interactive and batch programs have
processing options to specify the
options you want when you submit a
version of a program or report for
processing.
 Processing options are a set of
parameters that include tab names,
comments and data items. These are
used to instruct the system to perform
specific functions to meet your
business needs.
 Versions allow you to modify the
behavior of applications because they
exists independently of the application.
