 Discuss the importance of Physical Education

 Explain the objectives of Physical Education


 Identify activities enhancing the physical, social,
mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of an
individual.
 Participate actively in class discussions.
 Physical Education will develop the WHOLE child in
EVERY child
 the physical educators will serve as role models,
and demonstrate knowledge of health, physical
education and wellness.
 The physical education classes will provide a variety
of activities which will motivate the students and
increase participation.

 The physical education program will allow the


students to participate in developmentally
appropriate activities
 The physical education program will teach the
students to establish fitness goals.
Modern technology has lessened the physical
demands of everyday activities like cleaning the
house, washing the dishes and clothes, carrying pail
of water, scrubbing the floor and the like. These
activities demand time to be accomplished.
Chores that once required long hours of physical
activities, can now be accomplished in just a few
seconds by simply pushing a button or setting the
dial. As a result, more free time is utilized for other
activities.
To promote a healthy lifestyle among individuals,
the DEPTED and CHED emphasize physical
education from pre-school, elementary, secondary
and tertiary levels. The course promotes the
utilization of the learning medium of large muscle
activities through play or movement exploration
setting such as organized sports, gymnastics,
dance, aquatics and calisthenics.
Physical education aims to develop student’s
skills and good habits and to assists them into
becoming skilled, smart, happy, competent and
intelligent individuals.
Physical Education
is an integral part of the educational program
designed to promote the optimum development of an
individual physically, mentally, socially and
emotionally through total body movement in the
performance of properly selected physical activities.

Importance of Physical Education
Physical Education
Refers to the enhancement of the individual’s
growth and development through total body
movements.
It provides opportunities for socialization as well as
for the development of the mental capacities of the
individual.
The informal nature of the activities in a physical
education class provides relaxation and relief from
strain and tension.
Physical education activities teach students to
work as part of team or as an individuals in a wide
variety of play like and competitive activities.

Meaning of Physical Education


Physical Education
Came from the Latin words “physica” which means
physics and “education”, which means the training of
the bodily organs and powers with a view to the
promotion of hearts and vigor (Wikipedia, 2004)
Objectives of Physical Education
Physical Education as part of the educational
system strives to help or facilitate the development
of the potentialities of the individual so that he can
attain total fitness that enables him to enjoy a good
and useful life.

Physical education are focused on the


acquisition of those skill through the following
aspects of development: A) Physical, B)Mental,
C)Emotional, D)Social, E) Spiritual and Moral
A.) Physical Development
Focus in on the acquisition and development of the
physical skill which can increase one’s capability to
enjoy lifetime recreational pursuits.

B.) Mental Development


Through physical education activities, learners
acquire knowledge and understanding of rules and
strategies of the games, sport and dance instructions.
C.) Emotional Development
Physical Education activities provide
opportunities for self-expression and emotional
mastery. People who have more positive feeling
about physical activities are said to have more
positive balance of feelings which increases and
develops self-confidence, self-reliance and self-
control.
D.) Social Development
Physical activity often promotes the
opportunity to be with other people. Through social
experience, many appreciate the importance of
physical education activities. Through active
participation, students develop positive and desirable
traits like cooperation, sportsmanship, friendliness,
good leadership, respect for others and honesty in
group competition.
E.) Spiritual and Moral Development
Physical Education activities provide the
development of inner self and soul. Experiencing these
activities help students discover a personal meaning
and purpose in life.
Physical Education Program
Necessarily, physical education instructor must
conduct effective, sound, good, healthy and active
programs or classroom activities which students
may participate in and may attain the maximum
benefits.
The Physical Educational Program consists
basically of three major areas, namely:
1. Service Physical Education is usually required
to all students. The purpose of the program is to
provide instruction and develop skills, knowledge
and favorable attitudes toward physical activity.
2. Intramural Sports is the competitive phase of
sports activities. Activities participated in the
intramural program should parallel as closely as
possible to those offered in the service curriculum.

3. Extramural Sport place emphasis on instruction


and competition for students with relatively high
levels of skills in sports. This program involves
competition among athletes who compete with
other athletes with comparable ability.
