Panama 2006

The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the narrowest part of Central America. The French first attempted to build the canal in 1881 but failed. The US later took over the project in 1904 and completed it in 1914. Key factors in the ultimate success of the project included improved resource management, planning, and risk mitigation strategies to address issues like disease outbreaks, landslides, and damage from explosives.
