HISTORY
 Android is a mobile operating system developed
by Google in 2005 and is based upon a modified
version of the Linux kernel.

 It was initially developed by Android Inc. (a firm


purchased by Google) and later positioned in the
Open Handset Alliance.

Android has a large community of developers
writing application programs (apps) that
extend the functionality of the devices.

There are currently over 70,000 apps available for


Android with some estimates saying 100,000 have
been submitted,which makes it the second most
popular mobile development environment

 Android has seen a number of updates since its
original release. These updates to the base
operating system typically fix bugs and add new
features.

 Android supports connectivity technologies
including GSM/EDGE, IDEN, CDMA, EV-DO, UMTS

 Supports messeging (SMS,MMS)

the open-source . The browser scores a
93/100 on the Acid3 Test.
 Android supports the following audio/video/still
media formats:(3gp,mp4,mpeg4,AAC,mp3,wav,jpeg
gif,PNG etc..)
 It supports Multi-touch
 Bluetooth with Support for A2DP (Advanced Audio
Distribution Profile)and AVRCP(Audio/Video
Remote Control Profile)
