1. Physical abuse
2. Emotional abuse
3. Sexual abuse
4. Neglect abuse
Physical Abuse
• Involves physical harm or injury to the child
(hit,kicked,poisoned,burned&slapped)
• It may be the result of a deliberate attempt to
hurt the child or excessive physical
punishment
• Many physically abusive parents insist that
their actions are simply forms of discipline –
ways to make children learn to behave
Emotional Abuse
• Can severely damage a child’s mental health
or social development (constant shaming&
humiliating)
• Research also indicate that emotional abuse
may be stronger predictor
Characterize what many agree constitutes forms of
emotional abuse;

• Isolating- the adult cuts the child off from


normal social experiences
• Overpressuring- extreme pressure upon the
child to behave & achieve beyond the child’s
capabilities
• Terrorizing- creates a climate fear, bullies&
frighten the child
Sexual Abuse
• A child is sexually abused when they are
forced or persuaded to take part in sexual
activities
• Child marriage is one of the main forms of
child sexual abuse
• The global prevalence of child sexual abuse
has been estimated at 19.7% for females and
7.9% for males

other abuse as well. Neglected is dangerous
and can cause serious, long-term damage
even death
