A web browser is an application that
requests, receives and displays web
pages. browsers are “way to the web” or
internet users. a web browsers is a
program that computers runs to
communicate with web servers on the
internet, which enables it t download and
display the web pages that are requested.
Some important terms of Web Browsing

WEBSITE
 A site or area on the World
Wide Web that is accessed
by its own Internet address
is called a Web site. A web
site can be a collection of
related Web pages. Each
web site is owned and
updated by an individual,
company, or organization.
Web Page

 A web page can be explained as one area of the World


Wide Web. Comparable to a page in a book, the basic
unit of every Web site or document on the web is a page.

Home page

 The term home page has a couple of meanings. It is the


Web Page that your browser uses when it starts, and
also the Web Page that appears every time you open
your browser. Home page also refers to the main Web
page out of a collection of Web Pages.
WWW(world wibe web)

The world wibe web is the most popular service


on the internet for getting desired information.
The World Wide Web is responsible for
increasing growth in the number of Internet
users. An important concept about documents
on World Wide Web is Hypertext. Hypertext is a
method of presenting information by which text
or images contained on one document can be
linked to another document. The link that leads
from one document to another is called
hyperlink.

Web browsers are the software programs


used to access world wibe web. some of
the well known web browsers are:-
 Mosaic
 Netscape
 Internet explorer
 Mozilla
 Mecweb etc.

soft. internet explorer is
a graphical web
browser which allow to
use hypertext,
photographs, audio and
video etc available on
the internet.

TITLE BAR
This is the top most bar of the browser
window that displays the titel of the page
you are viewing. it also contains minimize,
maximize and close buttons.

The menu bar of the browser is almost like
the menu bar of other graphical program.
it’s menu item includes files,edit,view,help
etc.

navigate through recently visited sites,

In the address bar the address of web


page to search is entred. For example:

DOCUMENT AREA
Whenever you specify the address of the page in
the address bar the desired web page is
displayed in this area.

STATUS BAR

This bar displays the message to keep you


informing about the process of downloading.
status bar gives an idea of how much is left in
page to complete its download process.
VISITING THE WEB PAGE
To access the web page, we can use any of web
browsers that are available in the market like Microsoft
internet explorer.

To start browsing follow these steps:


i. click the internet explorer icon available on desktop or
select the option

start program internet explorer

ii. As soon as the browser open, type the address for the
web page you want to visit in the address bar and
press ENTER key.
HYPERTEXT SYSTEM
Hypertext system this can be described
as an interconnected net of textual
information. if you click a link, control will
be transferred to the document to which it
is linked. so just on a click of the mouse
you can move from one document to other
carrying same or different information. the
user can also return to a previous link.
SEARCH ENGINES
The special web sites on the internet, to search
for any kind of the information on the web are
called search engines.

Some of the popular search engine are:-

1. Yahoo(www.yahoo.com)
2. Google(www.google.com)
3. Rediff(www.rediff.com)
4. Indiatimes(www.indiatimes.com)
HOW TO USE SEARCH ENGINE

Follow the step given below to access the


search engine:

1. Connect to the internet


2. Start the web browser
3. Type the address for the site and press
ENTER. you can see that the home page for
the Google search tool contains a text box
along with a button labelled ”search” for
performing search.
4. Type a search string(MBA colleges in
India) in the text box and click on a button
”search”.

If the search engine is successful in


locating the specified information then it
displays a list to the sites containing the
information you were searching.
DOWNLOADING THE INFORMATION

Downloading means transfering data or


information from a remote system to client
system. one can download lots of information
present in the web to his computer.

Step to download the file are:

1. Open internet explorer and type the address


from which you want to download information
and press enter.
2. Click the desired link to start downloading file.

3. Select the SAVE THIS FILE TO DISK option from


displayed dialog and click ok.

4. Specify the location of the file you want to


download in save as dialog box and click SAVE
button.

a new file download box will keep you informed


about the status of downloading going on.

5. After the completion of the downloading process


anthor dialog box will appear, click on CLOSE
button.
