AGENDA
 What is Cloud Computing?
 Benefits of using Cloud Computing.
 Cloud Computing Usage Scenarios.
 Cloud Computing Architecture.
WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING?
 Internet (cloud) based
development and use of Computer
Technology (computing).

 Using the internet to access

someone else’s software running on
someone else’s hardware in
someone else’s data centre.

 Host a variety of different

workloads, including batch-style
back end jobs & interactive apps.
 The concept incorporates
Infrastructure as a service (IaaS),
Platform as a service (PaaS) and
Software as a service(SaaS) as well as
Web 2.0 and other recent technology
trends.

 Examples of SaaS vendors include

salesforce.com and google apps which
provide common business applications
online.

 Hundreds of organisations are

already offering free services in the
cloud.
BENEFITS
Cloud Computing played a significant role in dynamic growth in
IT. Organisations are switching from company owned hardware
and software assets to per-use service-based models.
Following are some benefits that Cloud Computing provides.

 Cost Efficient
 Quick availability of computer resources
 Foster Development
 Location Independence
 Scalability
 Reliability
USAGE SCENARIO
Cloud Computing can play a significant role in variety of areas.

1. INNOVATIONS

 Innovators can request resources online through a simple

web interface.

 Upon approval from the cloud resource administrator, the

Cloud provisions the server.

 The Innovator have the resources available for use within a

few minutes or an hour depending on what type of resource
was requested.
2. VIRTUAL WORLDS

 Virtual worlds require significant amounts of computing power,

as they are very large. E.g. Massively multiplayer online games.

 A company can achieve significant cost & time savings. This can be

shown by the following example.

 A company has 3 Realms(arbitary areas within a virtual world that

support a specific subset of the world) A,B,C.It discovers increase
in use and decline in response time of realm A & decrease in use
of realms B & C.

 Then, company initiates a Cloud Rebalance request to deprovision

5 servers each from realms B & C and provisions 10 servers to
realm A.After a couple of minutes,10 servers are relocated &
response time of realm A returns to acceptable levels.

 Thus with the help of cloud computing, this work accomplished in

minutes.
3. E-BUSINESS

 In E-Business,scalability can be achieved by making new servers

available as needed.

 If a company has significantly large cloud,it could schedule

computer resources to be provisioned each evening, weekend or
during a peak season.

4. PERSONAL HOBBIES

Innovation is no longer a concept developed and owned by

companies and businesses. It is becoming popular at the
individual level, and more individuals are coming up with
innovations.
CLOUD ARCHITECTURE
Cloud Architecture comprises of 2 things:

1. REQUIREMENT OF CLOUD COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE

Cloud Computing needs to build a Dynamic,Intelligent

infrastructure in order to provide fast and secure applications
or services in an on-demand enviornment. For this it has
following 4 core properties:

 Transparency
 Scalability
 Intelligent monitoring
 Security
 Transparency

 In Cloud Computing, services are delivered transparently

regardless of the Physical implementation within the cloud i.e.
multiple resources appear to the user as a single resource.

 E.g. Transparency allows additional servers to be added to the

provisioned service without interrupting the service. When a
service is provisioned to many users then it require more
servers.

 Scalability

 The application delivery solution provides the ability to

transparently scale - itself , service infrastucture & on-demand
dynamic application.

 This requires a virtualized structure such that resources can be

provisioned and de-provisioned easily, quickly and
automatically.
 Intelligent Monitoring

 Cloud Computing has intelligent monitoring capabilities to

understand
o when a server is overwhelmed.
o when network conditions are adversely affecting
application performance.

 Security

 Security is the first priority for mega data center as it is the first
entry point into the cloud data. Prime securities are
o Network security.
o Protocol security.
o Transport layer security.
o Application security.
2. HIGH-LEVEL ARCHITECTURE
 The High-Level Architecture of the cloud computing platform
comprises of
o Data centre
o Provisioning Manager
o Monitor
o Websphere Application Server
o DB2
o Virtualization Components

 Provisioning Manager
 It uses websphere Application Server to:
o Communicate the provisioning status.
o Communicate the availablility of resources in data centre.
o Schedule provisioning and deprovisioning of resources.
o Reserve resource for future use.
HIGH-LEVEL ARCHITECTURE

PRESENTATION NAME
Company Name

It focuses on the core back end of cloud computing platform;

it does not address the user interface.
 As a result of Provisioning,Virtual machines & Physical machines
are created

 Monitoring server monitors the health of the servers.

 DB2 (Database server) - manager uses to store the resource data.

 Monitoring agents communicate with the monitoring server to

get health of virtual machines and provide the same to the user.

 There are 2 user interfaces to provision servers.

1. Feature rich :- Fully loaded with the Web Sphere suite of

products .

2. Basic screens :- For making provisioning requests .

All requests are forwaded to provisioning manager for
provisiong/deprovisioning of servers.
CONCLUSION
 Cloud computing is an updated version of utility computing :
basically “virtual servers” available over the internet.

 It comes into focus only when we think about what IT always

needs :
o A way to increase capacity.
o Add capabilities on the fly without investing in a
new infrastructure.
o Training new personnel.
o Licensing new software.

 CC is a utility-style infrastructure provider as a part of mix like

SaaS (software as a service) providers such as salesforce.com

 CC = Saas + Utility Computing
