BEAMS
TYPE OF SUPPORT AND SUPPORT
REACTIONS
Support
1. Act as restrain to the motion of structure
2. Offers reaction (reactive forces) to maintain equilibrium of the structure
3. Transfers the load acting on the structure to the final load bearing members
Types of Support
1. Simple Support/ Knife Edge Support
2. Roller Support
3. Hinge/ Pinned Support
4. Fixed Support
5. Internal Support
1. ROLLER SUPPORT
Simple supports aren't widely used in real life structures unless the engineer
can be sure that the member will not translate; otherwise they run the risk of
the member simply falling off the support.
Simple Beam
propped Cantilever
little modification of the cantilever beam, if the free end of the
cantilever beam is place on a roller support/ hinge support
Single Overhanging Beam: Beam freely supported at two points and
having one ends extending beyond the supports.
Double Overhanging Beam: Beam freely supported at two points
and having both ends extending beyond these supports.
