What is the Americans with
Disabilities Act?

ADA, short for Americans with Disabilities Act

a civil rights law, this law that became an official law in 1990

a law to prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities.

This law was made to show that people with disabilities are equal and have the
same opportunities as any other individual in this society.
Title ll of the Americans with
Disabilities Act

Protects individuals with disabilities

Individuals with mental or physical impairments are protected

Covers public entities that include any State or local government

Activities of police departments town meetings, and employment are


covered by Title II of the ADA

The individual should have a record of being physically or mentally
