Export and Import An Overview & Indian EXIM Policy

The document provides an overview of export, import, and different types of software. It defines export as trading goods out of a country and import as bringing goods into a country. It then discusses two main types of software: system software and application software. System software controls computer operations and includes operating systems, while application software allows users to perform tasks like creating documents and spreadsheets. Examples of each type of software are also provided.

Export and Import

an overview
&
Indian EXIM Policy
Definition:
Export : when you trade something out of
the country. In economics, an export is
any good or commodity, transported from
one country to another country in a
legitimate fashion, typically for use in
trade.
Definition:
Import : To bring or carry in from an
outside source, especially to bring in
(goods or materials) from a foreign
country for trade or sale.
So… a computer or we can say hardware
is incomplete without a software, because
it’s a software which gives the logical
ability to a computer or we can brain to a
computer. All the codes and programs
help us in doing our tasks.
Types of Softwares
System Software

• System Software are designed to

control the operation and extend the
processing capability of a computer
system.

Examples are : Microsoft Windows, Linux,

Mac OS etc.
System Software
• System software helps in running the computer
hardware and computer system. It includes a
combination of the following:
Device drivers
Operating Systems
Servers
Utilities
Windows Systems
Examples of System Software
• An Operating System (OS) is the master controller
within a computer and is a major example.
E.g. Windows, MacOS, MS-DOS, UNIX, Linux
– Works as coordinator between hardware and user software
• Example: Opening a word document, screen display, print, and
save.
– Allocates system resources (CPU, peripherals)
• Examples: use of key board, mouse, playing music, displaying
on monitor
• An operating system interacts with:
– All hardware installed in or connected to a computer system.
– All software installed or running from a storage device on a
computer system.
Examples of System Software

• Network Operating System (NOS)

– Manages network resources.
– Maintains security.
– Tracks user accounts.
– Handles communication between workstations
and servers.
• Popular network operating systems
Windows NT, Novell Netware, UNIX
Application Software
• Application Software is a subclass of
computer software that employs the
capabilities of a computer directly to a
task that the user wishes to perform.

• Enables a computer to become a multi-

purpose machine.
 Produce worksheets and  Create flow charts and
reports. graphic organizers.
 Automate record keeping  Communicate worldwide.
like attendance and
grades.
Examples of Application
Software
• Productivity Software: Software which enhances the productivity
• Business software: Software which helps to efficiently do routine
tasks
– Horizontal Market Business Software
– Vertical Market Business Software
• Spreadsheets
– Databases
• Presentation Software
• Document Preparation
– Word Processing
– Desktop Publishing
• Project Management Software
Application Software
• Word Processing Software (MS Word, Word Star)
• Electronic Spreadsheet Software (MS Excel)
• Database Software (MS Access)
• Presentational Software (MS Power point)
• Communication Software (Yahoo Messenger, Skype)
• Electronic Mail Software (Outlook Express)
• Graphics Creation and Manipulation (Adobe Photoshop)
• Animation and 3D Graphics ( Tri Def )
• Video Editing
• Internet Connectivity (Mozilla, Chrome)
• Website Creation and Management
• Groupware
• Financial Management
• Edutainment - Educational Games and Tutorials
Overview of Application softwares:
Application software should be contrasted with
system software which is involved in integrating
the computer’s various capabilities, but typically
does not directly apply them in the performance of
a task that benefits the user.

So , the term application refers to both the

application software and its implementation.
Overview
• The types of software include web pages developed in
languages and frameworks
like HTML, PHP, Perl, JSP, ASP.NET, XML, and desktop
applications like Open Office, Microsoft Word developed
in languages like C, C++, Java, or C#.
• Application software usually runs on an underlying
software operating systems such as Linux or Microsoft
Windows.
• Software is also used in video games and for the
configurable parts of the logic systems of
automobiles, televisions, and other consumer
electronics.
Application Software

System Software

Hardware
Overview contd.
• It is usually written in high-level programming
languages that are easier and more efficient for
humans to use (closer to natural language) than
machine language i.e 0 & 1.

• High-level languages are compiled or interpreted

into machine language.
The Person Behind

• A person who creates software is called

a programmer, software
engineer, software developer, or code
monkey, terms that all essentially have a
same meaning.
