TOTAL CREDITS = 28 UNITS

One elective unit of credit must be an advanced elective from the basic skill areas of English, Math, Science, Social Studies,
foreign language, or vocational technical courses. Students must complete eight semesters of high school to graduate.
Honors Diploma
Honors Diploma
An Honors Diploma will be awarded to students who complete eight (8) semesters of high school attendance, complete a
minimum of twenty-six (26) units of credit in specified subject areas, and score a 21 on the ACT or above the 60th
percentile on the SAT. Students must earn at least a 3.0 grade point average on a standard 4.0 scale in the required basic
skills course.

Credit is required by subject areas as follows:


English 4 units (English I IV)
Mathematics 4 units (Algebra I or higher)
Science 3 units (cannot include Consumer Science)
Social Studies 3 units
Fine Arts 1 unit
Practical Arts 1 unit
Physical Education 1 unit
Advanced Electives 3 units
General Electives 4 units
Foreign Language 2 units (Recommended)
Honors Diploma, Cont.
General electives may include:
Fine arts, practical arts, and physical education. Two units of foreign language are recommended. At least three (3) units
of the twenty-six (26) units required for an Honors Diploma must be earned by attending Hermitage High School.
Advanced electives must be in addition to the required courses. For example, Biology II may be counted as an advanced
elective if it has not been counted as one of the three required science credits. Summer school courses do not count for
Honors Diploma as advanced electives.

Advanced Electives may include:


2nd year Vo-Tech courses, Greenhouse Operation, Accounting II, Nursery/Landscaping, Desktop Publishing II or above,
Psychology, Sociology, Liberty and Law, Pro Start II, Spanish II, Missouri History, Child Development II, College Algebra,
Advanced Animal Science, Biology II, Pre-Calculus, Agricultural Economics, Chemistry I, Calculus, Agricultural
Construction, Chemistry II, Agricultural Structures.
* Other upper level courses as approved by the principal.

Freshman
Required courses for 9th grade students:

English I
Physics First
Algebra 1
World History (1/2 credit)
Geography (1/2 credit)
9th Grade PE
Health (1/2 credit)
Careers and Family Leadership (1/2 credit)
2 Electives (Instrumental Music/Choir, Art 1, Agriculture Science 1,
Computer Applications)
Sophomores
Required courses for 10th grade students:

English II
Chemistry or Consumer Science (teacher recommendation)
Geometry (unless otherwise noted by your teacher)
American History
4 Electives (please pay attention to prerequisites)
Good sophomore possibilites: Ag 2, Art 2, Spanish 1, Business Tech,
Advanced Computer Apps, Choir, Instrumental, ProStart 1, etc)

Sound and Stage will have an entrance exam!


Juniors
Required courses for 11th grade students:

English III
Biology I
Algebra II
American Government (1/2 credit)
Social Studies Elective (1/2 credit)
ACT Prep (1/2 credit) (Optional)
3/12 Electives (Vo-Tech will count for 4 hours of the day. See Course Description
for list of all electives)
Seniors
Required courses for 12th grade students:

English (English IV or Applied Communications) (teacher recommendation AND


whether you are college bound)
Personal Finance (1/2 credit)
Biology II (optional) (dual credit)
College Algebra AND Calculus (optional) (dual credit)
A+ Tutoring (1/2 credit) (required for those participating in the A+ program)

7 Electives (Consider advanced electives and dual credit)


Math Progression
ONLY double up on math credits if you are taking Algebra 1B, and you want
to take Geometry at the same time. This would be to help you stay on track.
2016-2017 Sophomores (who are strong in math) should be set up well to
take College Algebra AND Calculus their senior year.
If you take two math credits next year, then you won't have any math class to
take your senior year and then there will be over a year gap before college.
Progression:
Freshman: Algebra 1
Sophomore: Geometry
Junior: Algebra 2
Senior: College Algebra/Calculus (dual credit)
Career Paths and 4 Year Plans
All Freshman complete a 4 year plan based on their Career Path

Dual Credit
The school will pay $700 of your dual credit every year ($68 a credit hour)

Must have at least a 3.0 or higher to take dual credit classes AND certain test
scores on MAP or EOC
