Slope Protection. RM

1. The researchers designed a slope protection using different configurations of plastic bottles filled with soil to reduce soil erosion along a river bank in Keppel-GK Eco Village. 2. Testing showed that a combination of cross-shaped and T-shaped plastic bottles was most effective at absorbing water flow compared to cube-shaped bottles. 3. The study evaluated different bottle designs and properties to determine an optimal design for plastic bottle slope protection.

Introduction
The river bank along Keppel-GK Eco
Village at Inicbulan, Bauan, Batangas
suffers from soil erosion. If it
continues to erode, the people
including their houses are in danger.
These led the researchers to consider
taking action with slope protection
design. It is not just cost effective and
profitable use but it will also help with
sustainable environment.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to design a
slope protection using plastic
bottles to break the flow of
water in the river which is the
main cause of soil erosion in GK
Village. To satisfy, the study
aims the following objectives:
Statement of the
Problem
1. To determine the
configuration of the bottle that
breaks the hydraulic force
produced by flowing water
1.1 Shape.
1.1.1 Cross and T shape
1.1.2 Cube blocks
Statement of the Problem
2. To determine the specific
gravity of the (ano to? Paedit
nalang)

The objectives stated is

important to come up with
important data to prove the
applicability of slope protection.
Significance of Study
To the Environment and Community
The study is about contributing to the
Improvement:

environment by finding ways, if not;

prevent the effects of soil erosion by
using plastic bottles as primary
material.
This research is to show how a
biodegradable material can
contribute against the limit which can
be a great factor of community
improvement.
Significance of Study
To the
Students:
This study serves as an aid for
us to acknowledge the
significance of preventing soil
erosion and be concern of the
environment especially with the
soil which mainly contributes in
construction.
An opportunity to apply the
skills and knowledge we acquire
in the journey of studying civil
Significance of Study
For Future
Researchers:

For future researchers, it will

provide inputs to further data on
materials involve in slope
protection, and serve as the
basis of similar researches
concerning material engineering
and development.
Scope and Limitations
The researchers gave attention on
the variables which caused soil
erosion including the size and
design of plastic bottle.
Characteristics of plastic bottles,
its tensile strength, and thickness
are determined and considered
for the plastic bottles potential as
soil erosion protector.
Conceptual Framework
This study is an attempt to analyze
the plastic bottle used as slope
protection. The idea in the study
was use some principles and test
applied to other studies but with
different input. To do this, the
researcher makes a conceptual
paradigm that illustrates the action
and the approach in the study.

Synthesis
The study of Darilag, J.D. et al.,
(2013) proposed a landslide
mitigation device using plastic
bottles that prevent landslide.
Similarly, the present study also uses
plastic bottle for the project.
The present study is similar to the
Goud, Rupali (2014) in such a way
that both studies used plastic filled
with sand.
Synthesis
The study of Russel Maier (2014)
proposed an ecobrick. Similarly, the
present study also proposed the
assembling of bottles together like
LEGO.
The proposed study of Takaaki Uda
(1989) stated that the weight affects
the stability of structure. Similarly,
this study will also put a great mass
on bottles.
Research Design
The study used the experimental
method of research to determine
the effectiveness of using plastic
bottle as control material in
preventing soil erosion.
In this study, it included the
production of different design of
plastic bottle filled with soil and
test against hydraulic power.
Materials and Equipment
The following are the materials
used in our research to come up to
different inputs and information..
a. Plastic Bottles
b. Soil
c. Fishing Line Rope
d. Metal Wire
e. Water
Methods Of Production
The procedures for the
production of different
breakwater structures are as
follows.
1. Collection of Plastic Bottles.
2. Preparation of Plastic Bottles.
3. Design Configuration.
Experimental Procedure
Three samples of different
configuration were constructed to
be used in the experiment and
subjected to artificial simulated
riverflow to test the effectiveness
of water.

Summary of Findings
Configuration of the bottle
that breaks the hydraulic
force produced by flowing
water.
It was found out that the
combination of CrossT shape is
more effective than the cube
blocks. The test conducted gives
a percentage of 65.28% on the
combination of two.
Conclusions
1. Among the designs, the
combination of CrossT shape
was able to break a higher
percentage of water compared to
the cube shape design. The
bigger and heavier the design,
the more effective it is to break
the flow of water.
Conclusions
2. The specific gravity of the
design is higher compared to
specific gravity of water. The
specific gravity was based on the
standard testing of breakwaters.
3. Slope protection made of plastic
bottles configured into different
shapes can break the water flow,
which can help aid soil erosion.
Recommendations
1. Plastic bottles to be use should
be picked wisely. It must not have
holes on its body nor on its cap for
the soil is to be compacted inside.
2. The knot tying of the plastic
bottles should be firm and uniform
for the bottles not to scatter.
Recommendations
3. The soil should be
compacted when put in the
plastic bottle.
4. Bigger plastic bottles is
highly recommended to increase
its weight and to its better use on
slope protection.
