What is an ident and the purpose
of it? Ident is short for identity. An ident is a short clip/animation portrayed to TV viewers during the advertisements. An ident includes the channels logo with a unique touch to it to clearly show and advertise to viewers what channel is being watched. E.g. below is an ident for BBC1 and it is clear to recognise it is BBC1 and not another channel.
How have idents changed
over the years? Like other technology, TV idents have improved and innovated as the years have gone on. Lots more colour is used in the present day idents and they are more animated and interesting

Are there any similarities or
constant themes in idents Similarities and constant themes within idents are common especially for that specific channel. For an example, E4 keep their idents similar so its always recognisable as E4. If many completely different idents are used to represent one channel, it may get confusing for viewers
Recognise constant themes here such as the purple and the E4 symbol in the middle of the shot surrounded by random objects.
Comparison between the
very first BBC ident and the most recent On the 2nd of December 1953, Britain saw its first TV ident which was nicknamed Bat Wings and is shown below on the left. One of the last BBC idents is shown below on the right which is shown on this present day September 2016.
There is clear comparisons between
the first and last BBC idents. The BBC logo has changed to a less appealing logo to a improved one in recent years and a lot more colour is used in the recent idents as its more ascetically pleasing and eye catching
