Afforestation is the

or stand of trees in an area
where there was no
previous tree cover.
It refers to a land that has
been without forest for
much longer.

non-forest land into a
forest.

IMPORTANCE
Afforestation is

necessary to
combat the issues
of global warming,
soil erosion,
pollution, and the
maintenance of
biodiversity and
ecological balances.

Advantages
There are many

advantages
1. We can increase
greenery.
2. It will avoid
desertification.
3. It will increase the
precipitation and aids
farming increase water
resources.
4. It reduces the air
pollution..
5. It aids to minimize Global
Warming.
6. It increases content in
oxygen in environment.

DEFORESTATION
Deforestation,

clearance or clearing
is the removal of a
forest or stand of trees
where the land is
thereafter converted
to a non-forest use.
Tropical rainforests is
where the most
concentrateddefores
tationoccurs.

CAUSES
There are many causes of

deforestation.
TheWWFreports that half of
the trees illegally removed
from forests are used as fuel.
Some other common reasons
are:
To make more land available
for housing and urbanization
To harvest timber to create
commercial items such as
paper, furniture and homes
To create ingredients that are
highly prized consumer items,
such as the oil from palm trees
To create room for cattle
ranching

DISADVANTAGES
By clearing forests, animals

lose their natural homes. This


means they have to migrate to
other places in order to
survive.

vital role in ensuring a balance
in the weather patterns.
Deforestation causes issues
such as global warming and
unpredictable weather
patterns.
Extinction Deforestation
destroys natural habitats
leading to deaths of various
animal species. It may also
lead to extinction of unique
plants and trees.
