The hotel night auditor is responsible for

reconciling and closing out daily hotel
financial activities. The night audit shift
starts when most hotel staff leave for the
day.

Night Audit

Financial procedures cover reconciliation of

the days cash transactions, house reports
and reservations from the previous day. The
night auditor reconciles cashier reports from
restaurant and retail outlets and transmits
credit card transactions. He prepares detailed
reports, noting discrepancies and out-ofbalance accounts. The night auditor acts as
an internal auditor to ensure hotel staff
correctly report revenue and financial
transactions.

Night Audit

Customer Service
The night auditor often handles guest
requests and complaints. He follows hotel
customer service procedures on customer
complaint resolution and guidelines to grant
exceptions, discounts or upgrades to ensure
customer satisfaction.

Night Audit

Housekeeping and Maintenance

The night auditor follows procedures for
housekeeping and maintenance issues that
arise during the night shift. He might be one
of a handful of hotel employees on duty in a
small hotel. If a guest needs more towels or
has a clogged sink, he follows housekeeping
or maintenance procedures to fix problems.

Night Audit

Front Desk
Some hotel guests arrive in the early
morning hours. The night auditor follows
hotel front desk procedures for reservations,
check-in and credit card transactions. As a
night front desk agent, he is responsible for
getting a tired, stressed guest into his room
as quickly as possible.

Night Audit

Shift Change
Because the night auditor performs a
variety of duties, he is responsible for
clearly communicating the nights activities
and transactions to the morning shift to
ensure seamless customer service. He is
also responsible for delivering reports, bank
deposits, cash and credit card receipts to
the proper hotel department for processing.
