( DRAWFRAME MACHINE )

What is spinning???.....
The process fiber to yarn is called

as spinning.

Drawframe
Carded sliver are feed into the drawframe to make fibers

uniform. Drawframe in a textile mill is unavoidable in yarn


spinning as fiber need to be parallel. This is done as you
see that most of the fibers at carding stage are drawn so
fast that there is little or no fiber parallel. The drawframe is
achieve into two stages:
First passage ( Breaker )
Second passage ( Finisher drawing )

Drawframe machine combines many slivers usually 8 to

24 slivers and give a single sliver. The combines slivers


stretched by the machine and take out as a single sliver.
Due to this process of combining and stretching, the
output sliver will become more uniform and hence quality
of final sliver will be improve.

Working of Drawframe
Carded slivers ( can ) are feed into creel portion of draw

frame machine. Generally, 8 to 24 slivers ( cans )are feed


for drawing process. These slivers are feed into main
machine parts via guided rollers these guided rollers are
just used for path providing through these guiding rollers ,
slivers are passed through the equalizer / auto leveler. In
auto leveler, uniform feed is control or a uniform mass is
controlled. After these slivers passing through auto
leveler, the slivers are feed into drafting system.

Working of Drawframe
The drafting system is the main part of drawframe machine.

In drafting system, length is increase and diameter is reduce


according to requirement. The drafting system is responsible
for mass of sliver, paralyzing of fibers and blending of slivers.
After drafting system, fibers are again converted into sliver
( drawn sliver ) we achieve a desire mass of sliver ( grains )
although some variation in mass occurs after drafting system.
This is controlled in equalizer / auto leveler. Now this sliver
( drawn sliver ) is finally wound on can.

NUMERICALS OF DRAFTING SYSTEM :


Formulae :

Break Draft = V2 / V1
Middle Draft = V3 / V2
Main Draft = V3 / V2 or V4 / V3
Total Draft = Break draft + Middle draft + Main draft

Application of Drafting System:


Drawframe machine.
Lap former machine.
Combing machine.
Simplex / Roving machine.
Ring machine / Ring frame machine.

QUESTIONS OF DRAFTING SYSTEM:

Q: If a drafting system of drawframe machine , speed

of back roller is 30 m/s and speed of middle roller is


40 m/s and speed of front roller is 60 m/s. Calculate
the total draft of drawframe machine ?

DATA:

Back roller ( V1 ) = 30 m/s


Middle roller ( V2 ) = 40 m/s
Front roller ( V3 ) = 60 m/s
Total draft of drawframe machine = ?

SOLUTION :
Break draft = V2 / V1

Break draft = 40 / 30 = 1.333


Main draft = V3 / V2

Main draft = 60 / 40 = 1.5


Total draft = Break draft + Main draft

Total draft = 1.333 + 1.5


Total draft = 2.833 Answer

QUESTIONS OF DRAFTING SYSTEM:

Q: Calculate the total draft . If speed of front roller is

80 m/s, speed of back roller is 40 m/s and speed of


middle rollers are 50 m/s and 60 m/s ?

DATA:

Back roller ( V1 ) = 40 m/s


Middle rollers ( V2 , V3 ) = 50 m/s , 60 m/s
Front roller ( V4 ) = 80 m/s
Total draft of drawframe machine = ?

SOLUTION :
Break draft = V2 / V1

Break draft = 50 / 40 = 1.25


Middle draft = V3 / V2

Middle draft = 60 / 50 = 1.2


Middle draft = V4 / V3

Middle draft = 80 / 60 = 1.333


Total draft = Break draft + Middle draft + Main draft

Total draft = 1.25 + 1.2 + 1.333


Total draft = 3.783 Answer

QUESTIONS OF DRAFTING SYSTEM:

Q: Calculate the breack draft . If speed of front roller

is 100 m/s, speed of middle rollers are 80 m/s and


total draft is 3.95 ?

DATA:

Front roller ( V3 ) = 100 m/s


Middle roller ( V2 ) = 80 m/s
Total draft = 3.95
Break draft of drawframe machine = ?

SOLUTION :
Main draft = V3 / V2

Main draft = 100 / 80 = 1.25


Total draft = Break draft + Main draft

3.95 = Break draft + 1.25


3.95 1.25 = Break draft
Break draft = 2.7 Answer
