Introduction
Welcome to the training on Crystal Reports 2008

In this training, you will be subjected through various features and functionalities of
Crystal Reports 2008 as a Standard reporting Tool.

Crystal Reports is designed to work with your database to help you analyze and inter
pret important information. Crystal Reports makes it easy to create simple reports, a
nd, it also has the comprehensive tools you need to produce complex or specialized r
eports.

Crystal Reports is a Standard Transaction reporting tool first developed by Seagate,


which later spun off to form a company called Crystal Decisions. Then it was taken
over by SAP Business Objects.

Course Objectives

The objective of Crystal Reports training is to provide the audience with complete in
formation & hands-on experience on Crystal Reports as an industry Standard Transa
ction reporting Tool.

It is not limiting but also to enable the participant to execute the case studies which s
erves as a virtual live projects.

At the end of the training, each participant will be able to take up development of re
ports using Crystal Reports.

Target Audience

Anyone with good exposure to RDBMS and is aware of DWH and OLTP concepts a
re ideally suited to undergo this training.

Prior work experience in any of the other reporting tools will be an advantage but N
OT mandatory.

Creating Report
Follow the steps below to open Crystal Reports:
Start Programs Crystal Reports 2011.

The Start page of Crystal Reports opens which is shown below:

To create a new Report click on the green highlighted icon . You will get the Standard Report
Creation Wizard, You can use this if you want but usually we do not use this. So Click on
Finish.

You will get the following window. This is the Preview window where you can view the d
ata. Click on the Design Tab as highlighted below.

Now Delete the Print Date and Page Number special Fields which were automatically ad
ded to the Report.

Go to File Untick the Save Data with Report because this will increase the size of the
Report.

Save the Report by giving a Name in the required path in your local system.

To add a Database Connection. Go to Database Database Expert.

The following window appears. Click on the Create New Connection

The window shows the different connections that are available. Choose the app
ropriate one. Here we will choose the OLE DB(ADO) for connecting to SQL serv
er.

Here select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server and click Finish

Now provide the login details of the Database that you need to connect to. Clic
k on Finish.

Now you can select the tables or views or Stored Procedures from the Databas
e. Here we select the Stored Procedure so that it is faster.

Select the Stored Procedure Sample_SP_Crystal_Report and click on the arrow
highlighted to select and click on OK.

You can view the fields in the Field Explorer

Now drag and drop the fields into the Details Section.

You can add remaining fields similarly. To change the name of the headers you
can double click on the header and change the names. The report will look like
this now
