Qualitative research through In-Depth Interviews has been adopted. 3 . For interviews nonstructured open-ended questions and semi structured questions were used .
Since the nature of project was of subjective ,therefore the use of various statistical & mathematical tools were not much required. Most of the data was collected through interviews as so no statistical tool were used. The study was of the qualitative aspect not the quantitative, therefore there were no additional statistical and technical tool were considered for suitability of the procedure & problem in order to achieve the desire objective
The major limitation of the project work study is time period which may not be sufficient to undertake the comprehensive study The sample consist of 23 respondent . Study was done only for ICD/TKD but not for CONCOR as a whole. Reliability of data provided by the consolidators, CHAs Transporters and shipping line representative.
Less than Container Load (LCL) is a service offered by freight forwarding companies, allowing shippers to book only part of a container. The freight forwarders offer less than container load services on regular schedules between selected origins and destinations. Because they service multiple customers, they can consolidate shipments adding up to a full container.
ICD/TKD has lost its rice business and Heavy Melting scrap business to ICD/LONI, which is operated by the WORLD WINDOW INFRASTRUCTURE AND LOGISTICS SOLUTIONS a strategic alliance partner of CWC. From LCL cargo ICD/TKD gets a revenue of 30000000(approx). It was started in the 2010-11 and now it is being increased at a rate of 33% every year.
FOR HOW MANY YEARS DID YOU ENGAGE WITH ICD/PATPARGANJ? HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH ICD/PATPARGANJ? ACCORDING TO YOU WHAT WERE THE MAIN REASONS BEHIND THE SHIFTING OF LCL CARGO FROM ICD/PATPARGANJ TO ICD/TKD? WHICH SHIPPING LINE DO YOU USE? WHICH SHIPPING LINE DO YOU PREFER? TELL ME ANY AREA WHERE ICD/PATPARGANJ IS BETTER THAN ICD/TKD. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR PROBLEMS A CONSOLIDATORS/CHA/TRANSPORTER HAS TO FACE IN ICD/TKD? HOW WILL YOU RATE SERVICES OFFERED BY THE ICD/TKD? HOW ICD/TKD IS DIFFERENT FROM ICD/PATPARGANJ? WHAT CHANGES WOULD YOU LIKE TO BRING IN ICD/TKD IN TERMS OF SERVICES?
AVAILIBILTY OF RAIL YARD AT ICD/TKD.
The unavailability of Rail yard at ICD/PARPADGANJ is the main reason why LCL consolidators moved to ICD/TKD. ICD/PARPADGANJ is operated by the CWC(central warehousing corporation ), they do have their RAIL LINE, RAIL YARD AND WAGONS but that is being operated form ICD/LONI and not from ICD/PARPADGANJ.
COST.
Since ICD/PARPADGANJ do not have rail yard so, LCL Consolidators had to bear the cost of transportation of the containers from ICD/LONI to ICD/PARPADGANJ. This increase the overall cost for the importer as well as to exporters
UNAVAILIBILIYT OF SPACE FOR THE SMOOTH FUNCTIONING.
ICD/TKD is much bigger in size than the ICD/PARPADGANJ which ensures the smooth functioning in ICD/TKD.
LOCATION OF OFFICES OF CONSOLIDATORS
Most of the offices of the LCL consolidators are present near ICD/TKD. Like Nehru Place, Kalkaji and Okhla Industrial Area. So, in case if any problem occurs they can immediate reach there and this is not the case with ICD/PARPADGANJ which about 12km away.
AVAILIBILTY OF CONTAINERS AT ICD/TKD.
Being the busiest dry port of ASIA the chances of availability of containers are very high but ICD/PARPADGANJ do not have many available containers and provide containers from ICD/LONI
TRAFFIC CONGETION AT ICD/TKD. SHIFTING OF CONTAINERS. AVAILIBILITY OF FOLK LIFT MACHINES.
WAREHOUSE SPACE.
PROBLEMS IN DISPATCHING THE CONTAINER(RAIL OUT PROBLEMS)
APPOINT AN EMPLOYEE FOR THE SHIFTING OF CONTAINERS AND RELATED PROBLEMS OR INSTALL A SOFTWARE FOR THE SAME. ICD/TKD Should install LCD/LED screen in its premises on which the detail related to shifting can be displayed MAKE A SEPARATE PASSAGE FOR LCL CARGOS. PROVIDE EXTRA WAREHOUSE SPACE. INCREASE THE NUMBERS OF FOLK LIFT MACHINE. MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO PAY ATTENTION WHILE RAIL OUT THE CARGO. E-FILEING FACILITY SHOULD BE MADE ONLINE.
Containers which are place in front of the import shed and of no use should be removed from there; it will provide extra space for the consolidators for their smooth functioning. No. of free time days needs to be increased from TWO DAYS for shipping line and ONE DAY for consolidators to SEVEN DAYS same as ICD/DADRI. One person should always be available at ICD/TKD who can help the Exporters /Importers/consolidators, if any problem occurs. Incentives and Discount should also be given to the LCL consolidators as ICD/TKD was providing to the Rice Exporters on quarterly basis. Parking rate should also be reduced so, transporters will not feel any kind of burden. Available land should be used to make proper parking arrangement and will help to cope up with traffic congestion.
